How To Register Car

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I bought a very nice car just 2 months ago. As i have been away on business now is the

time to register it in my name.

Does anybody know the requirements?

My friend had to go back to the USA jus a few days after i had bought the car. While he is still away what needs to be done to register the car in my name??

I have a workpermit so it should be easy. What do i need from my friend??

Thanks

Is it just me or does this post sound very dodgy??

Maybe I am becoming as paranoid as some other people on TV, but from the wording I get a bad feeling about this.

Maybe you would be better posting in the Motoring Forum or going there and looking at the main sponsor 'Expatmotors' who have the information you will need on their site.

You have not stated that you bought the car from your friend, but if you did, then for starters he will need to obtain 'statement of residency' from immigration or his embassy, and he will need to sign some transfer forms.

Looks like you will need to await his return.

I bought a used vehicle privately from my old company. I couldn't believe the hoops that we had to jump through....e.g. we had to do pencil scrapings (put a piece of tape over the numbers embedded in the chasis, motor etc. and rub a pencil over it to get the tracings) and then there were all sorts of questions about corruption since I was the old MD and then we had to transfer the financing over to my new company..................painful painful painful.

Are you financing the car? Have you paid for it completely? Did you get a receipt? Do you have insurance on the car?

If the answers to the above are no, yes, yes and yes then I wouldn't bother changing the registration. Not worth the hassle. :o

I dont do any paperwork of this sort myself, it will drive you mad, is the car in your friends name or his wife or a company ? either way you will struggle to do it in his absence,.

Understood about English. It was the way it was written that made it seem as if you were wanting to register 'his' car in your name while he is away.

D_mn I must be getting worse in my old age - or is it TV that makes us suspicious of everyone and everything? :o
