Hello all.

I know this topic has been posted numerous times but I can't find the exact replies I am looking for.

I am engaged to a Thai lady and am going back to the UK in December. She will hopefully be joining me January. She has a master's degree and comes from a fairly well off family. She was educated in America and has travelled all over the world including Europe and has never had visa problems.

I work in TV but have been working as a writer in Bangkok for the last 2 years. I will be returning to TV when I get back to London. Writing here doesn't pay brilliantly and my bank account looks fairly sparse. I have already organised a lot of work for when I get back. The Scouse gave me some good advice about that before.

I have some questions:

How long is it likely to take before she can join me if we filed now? Obviously no exact figures can be given but a loose timeframe. A week? Six months?

If she got refused how long before we can apply again?

If we applied after I got back and got a flat and had some money coming in would this dramatically increase our chances? I am fairly optimistic about our chances. Her parents would support her and so would mine. I also own a house with £100,000 equity.

Thanks again for all your help,

Jason

If you put in a solid application and she is not called for interview (which is quite possible) then you will get an answer in 4 days. If she is called to interview then whatever the waiting list is at the time (could be 6 - 8 weeks). After a successful reply she can go immediately.

If she was refused you can apply again the next day if you wish

Although it is not a requirement to have a job as a strong potential to secure one can suffice I would think it would add a lot more weight to your application if you could show that you have one or at least an offer on paper.

You can show your accomodation is with your folks at the time of your application and that you will lodge there on arrival but you will have to show you can support her from your own (both of you) funds following recent legislation

Brilliant. Thanks a lot. You have really, really put my mind at rest. Someone in a bar told me we were going to have to wait 6 months if the application failed. Others have said that they 'weren't sure but the visa might take 3 months or 6 or even a year. I shouldn't listen to people in pubs I guess.

Thanks!
