In Canada dissidents are not subjected to house arrest like Aung San Sui Kyi. They are neutralised and protected by Interdictory Court Orders. Those who live in that state are subject to surveilance at all times. Their telephones, computers ,mail and personal acquaintances are closely monitored, and often manipulated. From time to time a person in this state would like to communicate with persons and agencies outside of the country with some assurance of privacy. I have contacted several local Consulates in the hope that I could arrange some form of diplomatic mail. Apparently local Consulates are not allowed to participate in that type of service, even if the mail is intended for their own government. Does anyone know of a means whereby oppressed North American diissidents can obtain a secure method of communication with foreign governments other than by attending their embassies ?

Diplomatic communications are protected by the Vienna Conventions on Diplomatic and Consular Privileges and Immunities. No Embassy or Consulate would act as mail boxes for dissidents. It would be grossly improper so to do.

I suppose that Embassies and Consulates delivering communiques from dissidents could be viewed as intervening in domestic affairs. Also, Embassies wouldn't want to become private mail services for the public as a consequence of providing necessary services to the endangered.

Pigeon carriers have had some success but reliability can be an issue.

Choosing dissidence as a path is inherently fraught with problems not least those associated with isolation and loneliness.

In this day and age I'm afraid there is little alternative to limiting communication to the personal but even then you can never be too sure about whom you are actually talking to. Not everyone on their side is.

Perhaps another activity less controversial may be your answer. As a Canadian you may wish to consider synchronised treefelling or even ornamental curling in Alberta as a reasonable alternative to your current hobby. If Islamism is your motivation you could always compete whilst rehearsing whichever Koranic verse seems the most appropriate.

Or you could always listen to Lennie Cohen and just forget about it..........

Dissidence isn't always a career choice. It is very easy to find yourself mired in an international powerplay while simply going through the paces of everyday life. As you said, "you can never be too sure about whom you are actually talking to." It is possible to escape entrapment. All you have to do is say and do nothing. No one could live in that state and still retain a conscience. I suppose secure communication is an impossibility in this paranoid era.
