My subscription for National Geograph just expired for the year and I'm looking for a replacement. It's a good mag and all but it's very American! It was a good price at less than 50 bucks for 12 mths/issues. Any suggestions about magazines I can get sent in Thailand on a monthly basis that don't cost the earth? Pretty open regarding subject matter...house, garden, DIY, money, science, life, etc. Something I can order online direct. I found going straight to the NP website was cheaper than ordering from Amazon. Any ideas?? Cheers!

Not sure where you can do this, the Net I guess. A good idea might be to 'swap' magazines using the TV Classifieds Forum. I think a lot of peeps might be up for that. It would just be the cost of posting I guess. Swapping books would also be a good plan - especially for those of us living in rural areas

I subscribed to Saga Magazine once I reached 50 in the UK a few years ago . I got a lifetime subscription for 90 GBP and now that I am in Thailand they mail it to me FREE.

Not that I read it much of course.

Love National Geographic. My folks have every issue going back to the 1960's and my grandparents had a collection going back to the 1930's!!! (that is until my aunt sold the entire collection when they passed away for $25 :o ...guess one person's treasure is another's trash)

I don't get them over here in Thailand, but its another thing to look forward to when I visit home. NG definitely played a big part in my desire to travel and see new places. :D

The other mag that I like is the New Yorker, but it won't appeal to all(more american than NG) and I'm not sure of the cost to receive internationally.

You could try looking for some digital magazine subscriptions - I can get quite a few decent ones, which are normally charged for. There are quite a few. Google is your friend here. Each month/week youll get an email to tell you the next is available for download. Works great anywhere - you can even print them out if you want. Best of all they dont take up space either...

You could also print them and sell them, as a few places seem to do with foreign newspapers in bkk...

New Yorker costs about $100 US per year vs $49 in the states for delivery to Thailand. I get mine every week. Have been reading it for 20 years now and couldn't do without it! And I don't live in New York either!

Why don't you get it in Thailand? Mine came every month without fail..cost about $47 Aussie dollars for the year.

I prefer not to get online magazines because I'm trying to get away from the computer but thanks for the suggestion. Any more ideas...would like a recommendation about maybe an investment/finance mag or do it yourself type stuff.

You have anyone back in the U.S. who can remail magazines for you?  I take several magazines, have them sent to my sister.  She picks up the USPS "Priority Mail International" flat rate envelopes and once a month stuffs it full of magazines, up to four (4) pounds gross weight.  It arrives usually within one week, cost is $11, not too bad at all I figure.  Sure saves paying airmail for individual magazines.

FYI, if you go this route ask your mailer to put things in a regular plastic bag from the local supermarket.  As noted in the photo, the semi stiff hard paper "pouches" sometimes burst a seam.

Been using this "service" for 15 years or so now, it works!!

I believe that there is a Thai Playboy edition.

Have fun.

Haha...good if I was a guy!

Thanks for that Mac. I will have to check if Oz (I'm not from the US!) has a similar service for flat rate postage . My friends and fam send me magazines sometimes but it's pretty sporadic. I'd like to know something's coming regularly as there is a severe lack of (none!) english books available in my province. The NG has an office in Bangkok so that's why it was not so expensive. Will definitely look into your method, sounds like a good option :o

My cousins have been receiving NG for 5 years now. A Thai version. Can't remember the price, it was a promotion and rolls like that every year. They have never missed a copy.

The Economist, The Asian Wall Street Journal come easily as well.
