Arthroscopy On The Knee In Chiang Mai

I think I have bits and pieces of cartilage floating around in my knee joint. Are there any really recommended surgeons/facilities in CM - or is it down to the Big Mango and, if so, where do you recommend ?

Will be appreciative of any advice.

Thank you.

Cheers

I suggest you PM davidgtr. He has an orthopedic surgeon here in CM who he swears by. Sorry I forget his name, but he taught most of the current field of orthopedics here in town in his capacity as a teaching professor at CMU medical school. If he thinks it can't, or shouldn't be done here, he won't hesitate to send you to the best/right place. A totally honest guy, and an excellent doctor, according to davidgtr....

I think McG is talking about Dr Sutee, his clinic is at the far NW end of the notsosuperhiway oposite Wat tan Jet Yod.

phone 053 214139 evenings.

He's very good for orthopedics, but unfortunatly does his operations at Ram, which is a rip.

Being aware of how Ram does its "rip", you can control your costs in going there. I just finished two days there and with the cooperation of my operating Ortho, my bill was acceptable, especially when I insisted the payment transaction be in Thai Baht rather that the usual "USD transaction with a exchange rate of 33.24".

Anyway, I did learn from my Ortho, who is a professor of Orthopedic Surgery at CMU and thinks highly of Dr. Suthi, the arthroscopic surgery is a specialty and you need to find an Ortho who does it everyday.

My ortho was trained in the U.S. on arthroscopic surgery but is not allowed by CMU hospital to perform it as he hasn't be designated as a specialist in this procedure. It may be that they have enough specialists in this area performing arthoscopic surgeries that there is a waiting list.

I am not sure in Dr. Suthi still teaches at CMU, I got the impression he was retired from there. I also wonder if he is young enough to be certified in arthroscopic surgery, but he could sure recommend one, I am sure.

Thanks guys for all your helpful advice. I will follow up all leads - thank you - but McG -your sugestion to PM someone has proven a little difficult. I have looked in the members list for a matching email address, to no avail ! Perhaps I didn't look and hard and long enough ! Any other clue , please ?

What I meant by PM was to send him a Private Message on the forum. You can't get member's emails from Thai Visa, for reasons of privacy laws, etc.

Go to the top of the page (any page) in TV. In the light blue band near the very top, see the link which says "X New Messages" (or 0, or 3, etc.).

Click on it. It will take you to the message center. Left side column, click on "Compose New Message". Fill in Recipients Name, and at least 4 characters in Message Title. Type in your message, scroll to bottom, Send. That's it, and good luck!

Thanks micaw 60 for that run-down. Most valuable . If it's the Big Mango, sounds like the man.

Really appreciated

Hi Mcgriffith,

You make it sound too easy !

In fact, just as you advised, the message has been posted.

Thank you. No wonder you're qualified to be a moderator and a leader of men !

I'll be really grateful if you would let me know how whatever you decide to do works out since I have to undergo a similar procedure on my shoulder joint. I used to live in CM and have dealt with hospitals in both CM and Bangkok. I remain convinced that I will always return to CM if I need any work done simply because the doctors there seem better qualified and the prices much much cheaper, even at CM Ram.

Good luck
