Briton Files Assault Charges Against Thai Over A Land Deal

Briton, wife lodge CSD complaint over alleged assault

A Briton and his Thai wife have asked the Crime Suppression Division to take action against the operator of a passenger van queue in Bangkok and his aides who allegedly assaulted them over a land deal on a resort island in Trat. Rattana Niamsoongnern, 32, and her husband Dawell Waito, 45, yesterday lodged a complaint with CSD chief Pol Maj-Gen Pongpat Chayaphan against Pornnathee Trakulsrisook, 40, a Bangkok resident and operator of a passenger van queue at the southern bus terminal. Rattana said she and her husband had used money from the sale of their assets in England in developing a 500 square wah block of land on Koh Chang into a resort hotel named Backpacker, under a 30 year lease.

In May, Pornnathee contacted her and expressed an interest in buying the resort, for which she set the price at 10 million baht. The price was later brought down to 5.5 million baht when Pornnathee said he could only afford to pay that much. A few days later, Pornnathee paid her 100,000 baht as a down payment. Under the deal, the couple would have to transfer the business operating rights only after the buyer had made the full payment. But in August, Pornnathee took 10 of his aides with him to stay at the resort, even though he had yet to make the full payment.

Good luck to this couple. They will need it.

this is an interesting story and i hope we get to hear of its progress through the courts and its eventual outcome , although i doubt if we will.

i feel sorry for the englishman , and i hope his wife has some good contacts , otherwise i think the intimidation will increase.

once again the refusal of the local police to act after a mob handed attack was reported should give the victims an idea of the state of the police in a developing backwater like koh chang , and whose side they are on.

whether the csd sending down the boys from bangkok to sort it out will help their cause or not is anybodys guess , i wish them luck.

this case deserves wider publicity.

humm...maybe the englishman didn't know but his wife certainly should have - that isn't it usually the case that most of the taxi and van que operators at thai airports and especially the bus terminals (as in this case) are run by or controlled by mobsters. not the type of people i would think one would want to enter any type of business transaction with!!!

just hope they both have good bullet-proof vests and one of the us army's surplus armoured humvees for a car...they will need it

this sounds like the same sort of Mafia style mentality regarding real estate deals

that we have been hearing about on Koh Samui. Another example of " Thai love Thai " :o

Usually the vans here are controlled by the Army mobsters. Very uncomfortable people.

rather them than me ,witness protection act springs to mind :o

Agreed, it will be interesting to see if this hits the Thai press.

Best of luck to the guy and his wife.
