Nokia N800 Versus Asus Eee

Featured Replies

I know they are two completely different devices, but both are light weight and can access the internet at a very reasonable price. Great for travel. I'm still waiting for the release of the Asus Eee, (maybe November) but the Nokia N800 is already on the market. Does anyone here own the Nokia, and if you do, are you happy with it's functions?

Have you actually seen the Nokia N800 anywhere on the market here? I haven't seen it for sale anywhere, would be quite interested in it myself...

As for the EeePC, my only issue is with the ridiculously low screen resolution...everything else can be lived with, but for any modern websites it would be a hassle.

As a long-time PDA user, an N800 would be lovely, the EeePC is too clunky for a mobile device (I mean having a full OS, boot-up, etc.) and too underpowered for a laptop.

Sorry, I should have mentioned, I'm in Canada. Either device would come in handy, on my next visit to Thailand with my wife. Better and safer than using internet cafe's, especially when it comes to accessing bank and brokerage accounts. Nokia Canada wants CDN $430 for it, but that's ridiculous, since I've seen them elsewhere on the internet for below $300. I would have thought the expats in Thailand could purchase them there, but perhaps I'm wrong. I've read a few reviews, but haven't actually seen one, but know they exist. I've looked at the Palm TX in the stores, but I think the technology may be getting a little old. Palm TX owners can jump in on that one. The Asus Eee is about 2 lbs. in weight, but it seems to have a decent keyboard, which I find interesting. I'm not expecting to do any heavy work on this laptop PC, so for accessing the net, it may be more than adequate. The first Eee's may only have a 7 inch screen, but a 9 inch version is expected next year.

I think you'd be better off purchasing an N800 online while in Canada...I haven't even ever seen Nokia's previous tablet device here.

I love Palm's stuff, but the TX is not that attractive a device...my several year-old Palm Tungsten T3 is better than it.

What would you want to access online? How about a smartphone with a QWERTY keyboard? I find the Treo680 to be a very nice device for casual browsing, mail-checking, etc. The OS may be old, but it's lightning-fast, especially compared to Symbian, and it's MUCH more intuitive than Windows Mobile for both phone & PDA functions.
