I guess it is all about the company you keep and where abouts you live. It also doesn't help if you are an ethnocentric farang.

Ok thais are better at maths than their ferang counter parts :o:D:D

But as you say worse at geography - even worse than americans!

Re. general knowledge or history - ask the average thai when WW2 took place or who was JFK!

Thais are encouraged not to think - 'mai kit mak'!

Funny you should mention WWII a few weeks ago I was playing "Return To Castle Wolfenstein" with my kids and I was telling him to shoot Hitler's picture. Our neighbors daughter and friends who are about to start University asked me who Hitler was SHOCK! They had absolutely no knowledge of WWII other than it happened. Since the current PM doesn't even remember Thailand's history (1976) I'm not surprised at all.

WWII, JFK, Stalin, Mao (not the drunk one), - yes it is astonishing. However, according to one 'Madjhb' all is corrected at university. Better not to inform the malluable brain - maths is better learned later in life, thats what makes thais much better at it!!

My sister-in-law who lives in London and is University educated in Thailand said they learn only about local history in High school nothing in university. Her favourite channel in the UK is Discovery, she enjoys learning about world history and science.

At the start of the Falklands War, most Brits thought that the Falklands were near Scotland

In Blackpool, N. England seaside resort, a sign read "Blackpool Rock 9p or 10 for £1" Guess which was more popular!

I could see the mistake with the falklands as there is a village named Falkland and a hill named Falkland Hill in Fife county Scotland. Why they thought Argentina would come all the way to Scotland to fight for it :o

I was curious and I did the test this morning in the office, I'm working in China.

Assistant : 480 weeks (same logic 12x4x10)

Average executive, all nationalities : 520 weeks. Some doubts some time about the number of weeks in a year but same logic for foreigners and chinese

Brainy girl, chinese : 521 weeks (365 x 10 / 7), result in less than 10 seconds, without a calculator.
