On This Day in 1973 the B.B.C. reports

http://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/dates/s...000/2534347.stm

Thai army shoots protesters Dozens of people have been killed in the Thai capital of Bangkok in street battles between government troops and demonstrators. Most of the victims were students from Thammasat University, who had gathered in large numbers for a second day of protests against the Thai military regime.

Numerous testimonies indicate the regime opened fire on unarmed civilians. The official death toll was 77. Over 800 were wounded.

Most Thais celebrate the 'October 14 Uprising' anniversary as Thai People's Rights and Freedom Day.

"Lest We Forget".................R.I.P.

No wonder no one dared to oppose the military junta last year as they took Bangkok under threat of violence! Seems they'll "win" the next election, as well, unless the Isaan people are allowed to vote freely!

agreee with you on that one :o

Lest we forget indeed.

What I'd also like to know is who was the sicko that gave this thread a single star rating?

I opened this thread with a single star.

I thought to open this thread quietly & with respect

Sicko ? I leave it to you to judge me.

Aha. I had presumed someone had left a single star out of disrespect.

Sorry.

No apology necessary, but thank you.

Posting this thread was a diffidult decision to make and that is why I tried to make a diplomatic and understated mention of this day out of respect for all involved.

I didn't want huge a headline but felt that 1 lone star would give it subtle notice.

perhaps I erred, and to miss-quote the Scots poet Robbie Burns (Sorry Mr Burns)

that "sometimes the greatest plans of men

are oft to go awar"

So thank you "emperor_tud", I didn't take offence, and if I erred then I also apologise.
