Community Disturbance at Nakhon Si Thammarat Hospital as Distressed Man Climbs onto 7th Floor Ledge
Picture courtesy of Amarin A dramatic scene unfolded on the morning of 10 June, at Maharaj Nakhon Si Thammarat Hospital as emergency personnel worked for hours to calm a mentally distressed patient who had climbed onto the seventh-floor balcony of the hospital’s surgical building and threatened to jump. The incident occurred at approximately 10:30, when a male patient, believed to be around 50 years old, managed to reach the narrow ledge on the building’s seventh floor. Witnesses described the man as disoriented and incoherent, exhibiting signs of severe psychological distress. Rescue teams from the Pracharuamjai Foundation, alongside nurses and hospital staff, attempted to communicate with the man and coax him back to safety. However, due to the precarious location and the man’s unstable behaviour, direct access was not possible. Negotiations continued for more than two hours without success. Hospital administrators then contacted the Nakhon Si Thammarat Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, requesting deployment of a safety air cushion to help prevent a fall being fatal. Talks between emergency responders and the patient were ongoing for several hours, before the man finally returned to safety. In a separate incident occurring around the same time, police in Chalerm Phrakiat District were called to a scene in Moo 3, Thang Phun Subdistrict, where a man had been electrocuted after climbing a high-voltage power pole. Picture courtesy of Amarin. Police identified the deceased as Mr. Veera 63, a resident of Chang Sai Subdistrict in Phra Phrom District. His body was found severely burnt at the base of the power pole. Although no witnesses saw the event unfold, police believe the man had climbed the approximately 40-metre-high pole and came into contact with live transmission wires, resulting in a fatal electric shock and fall. The motive for the act remains unclear, and authorities are currently coordinating with the family to investigate the incident. Adapted by Asean Now from Amarin 2025-06-11 -

Report No Border Closure: Thailand, Cambodia Pursue Diplomatic Path Forward
Picture courtesy of Wikipedia Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra reassured the nation that the tense situation at the Thai-Cambodian border is gradually improving. On Tuesday, June 10, she confirmed no confrontations have arisen between the two nations. Border checkpoint opening and closing schedules remain unchanged as both countries aim to ease tensions collaboratively. The Prime Minister highlighted the robust communication between Thailand and Cambodia under international law. She has engaged with Cambodian counterparts, including Prime Minister Hun Manet and Senate President Hun Sen, to safeguard national interests. These discussions have been peaceful, with both parties striving for harmony. Contrary to swirling rumours, Paetongtarn dismissed the notion of permanently closing the border, stressing the detrimental impact this would have on cross-border trade. Instead, timing adjustments at checkpoints are intended to minimise disruptions. The upcoming Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) meeting on June 14 is anticipated to facilitate further progress. While the possibility of taking the issue to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) looms, Paetongtarn reinforced Thailand's rejection of the ICJ's jurisdiction. The Thai government continues its transparent yet discreet diplomatic approach. Though confidentiality limits public disclosure, both nations have reached a private understanding, ensuring regional stability. In conclusion, the Thai-Cambodian border situation is being managed diplomatically, with vital discussions scheduled to continue. The avoidance of permanent closure indicates a focus on maintaining crucial trade relations while addressing security concerns. The forthcoming JBC meeting will be crucial in determining further steps to sustain peace and prosperity between the two neighbouring countries. Adapted by ASEAN Now from The Nation 2025-06-11 -
