Kids Car Seats

As the father to a 3 month old, I went through this dilemma some 6+ months ago !

I wanted a western all in one system where I could leave the base in the truck and transfer the carry cot to the pushchair. It makes putting the baby in the car all the more easier and you don't have to mess about with either putting the chair in the car and securing it with the baby inside or having to get the baby into the secured in seat in the car.

I went all around the houses (I live in Pattaya). I hit the web and came up with Maxi Cosi ( http://www.mothercare.com/gp/product/B000M...31&mcb=core )and a 3 wheel gas shocks system from Quinny similar to this http://www.mothercare.com/gp/product/B000M...41&mcb=core

However, I didn't bank on needing a mortgage to get one ! Some serious prices were touted up to Bt80,000 and the like depending upon model.

I went to http://www.britbaby.com/ but their prices are high so I found http://www.bambiweb.org/classifiedAds.php and went through their classifieds for a couple of weeks, or more probably a month. I emailed back and forth and eventually found a couple going back to the US (diplomats) who had a 2nd hand Evenflo system with 2 bases (they had 2 cars). I went to Bangkok and met with the wife and I purchased the system for a fraction of what it would have cost me just for a new car seat.

Now I have the bases, a carry cot and the big buggy and I know, I compromised but I couldn't justify way over a 1000 USD extra for a new set.

As a footnote, I did put adverts in the pattaya Mail and other local papers and got some responses but usually from clowns wanting more than they cost new. I also looked in Singapore when there on business but their prices were the same and only 5% tax so not enough savings.

I feel fine. It was all washed and though you can see some sunlight fade marks and a few scratches, I know I have a western set rather than a Tesco own brand which has passed which safety standards ?
