SamuiBond
Beeing ThaiVisa.com, visa related issues are always close to the heart. Happend just week ago that once again that m***king visa needed a new stamp. I got this brochure hand delivered to my base and was already thinking to go Malaysia but chose to take this new delivery company minivan. As always its like rolling dice. Good or bad driver... To my surprise this guy was driving all the way nice and easy and extra pillows that I had helped me to sleep throught the worst (if there was any). Beer was allowed which I noticed maybe a notch too late. Food was included. Girl in charge of stuff helped everyone in need and smiled:) most of the time... On the way back I took back missing them beers and surely enough we stopped several times to release em productions to local places. It was like a casual family trip and I cant really remember doing anything more easy from Samui to border (6th year). Surely I dont (I guess I cant because post will be deleted) mention the name of the company here but it wasnt H or J company but the Easy. Price was really fair plus 10 US for the stamp. Viagra copies and cheap whiskey helped to bring back balance. Best ever Burma trip and driver. Clearly someone in business has been reading these posts... mattias33
Are these new guys doing penang also then, since you said you where thinking about it or do they only do the border? By the way i do need a border-run in december so you might pm the details to me.

Are you saying im therefore contributing to that horrible picture? I cant beleive how or why you would do a post like that. You must be pretty twisted. mcgriffith
While I have great sympathy for the plight of the Burmese people, posting photos of the dead is inapproppriate. I don't think the OP had any intent of supporting the Burmese junta; he just had to do a visa run, and was discussing his options. Thank you for your understanding. Thank you for your understanding. Sorry for the photo. I was also advised that they may come from south thailand. Anyway the Op waa talking about buying stuff from Burna, and that is supporting the junta. Even on a border run a person is paying the Burma government. Did he had the visa for free? PoorSucker
The major thing is statistics. One border run means one more tourist visiting Burma.

Can you bring a picture of a rabbit that died, because of lack of food? ´Give it up emmezeta, your completely off. The guy started a thread about visaruns to burma, i for one is interrested in what people can contribute to this. Has anyone tried the "new guys" out? Is it good and safe and do you reccomend it? mcgriffith
I don't live on Samui, but out of curiousity, what are your options there for a visa run? Malaysia? Cambodia? Both look rather far away. It does seem that Burma might be the only practical destination for a one day trip. Also, no one has to buy anything there if they feel strongly about the political situation. Other than the fee to Burmese immigration, it is perfectly acceptable to get stamped in, get stamped out, and leave forthwith....
Mid
Malaysia is also possible for a one day trip , abet a long one and arguably much more dangerous than the Ranong run .
Belgarath
I do not quite understand. Why is everybody in such a hurry? Back to some illegal business???... Nah, I just want to know, do not get mad.... I am on Samui(Lamai) for 3 months coming winter, recently retired, have to go to Thailand partly for health reasons (the 8th winter for that) - have no balance when there is snow and ice here in Sweden - and end of January I have to renew the Tourist visa. I do not mind at all to take a few days to go to Penang, where I have been a number of times, I have never been to Burma which possibly would make it more interesting, if there is something interesting to see if I stay for a few days? I do writing about the Burmese junta, here and there, and I think that contributes more than the harm done if I am there as a tourist for a few days. What about train to Penang? Train BKK-Penang no problem, BKK-Surathani and boat, no problem. Any complications to take train from Surathani-Penang-Surathani?

My last visa i drove nice and easy to sadao with my car. Took a hotel there. My wife was waiting in the hotel while i took a taxi in the morning to penang, got my visa and back to the hotel in the evening. We had a nice few days holiday in sadao. No stress. No uncomfort. Nice and easy holiday. Will do the same when its time next year to renew the multiple entry. However, some of us living here have multiple entry visas wich means we need a border run now and then. Thats a one day trip. Ranong is a very beutiful ride, nice roads and views and with op description of this new company its like a "familytrip". Border-runs is always a bit of a drag but if it is done in a pleasant matter its ok. Just cant afford to make every border-run as a familyvacation aswell, but i agree with you that its better to take it easy. Cant understand the "formula one visa runners". I also agree that samui is better than Sweden in the vinter-time, i did that choice myself and its a winner, i promise!! If you go to Penang to get Tourist Visas, be aware that the now only give limited numbers of TV for each person in Penang. And the winters in Sweden is no fun (born above the arctic circle). Get in and get out is ok, the Burma opposition asked to stop turism and apply sanctions.... Samui is an island, so a flight to Penang seems the best choise. When i will have to do a border run I will see the cost of air ticket. With the current visa situation it's better to arrive with a dual entry 6 month visa anyway. I would love to have a place outside Thailand with 2 flights a day from Samui, so the border run will be just a visit to an airport . The airline that will start it will make money, they could call it the border run dual flight day....
Taci
Hi Samuibond. Can you pm me details of the Ranong trip you mentioned in the post. I pm'd you before but got no reply Thanks
SamuiBond
Hi Samuibond. Can you pm me details of the Ranong trip you mentioned in the post. I pm'd you before but got no reply Thanks PM Sent. Doing Visa trip to Burma hardly has anything to do with Burmas junta. Few locals might support their family with the cash you spent on meds, whiskey and tobacco they carry you from some hidden stock. Visit on land lasts for about 10 minutes. During that you can whisk to locals how your hearts supports them and this way engourage the battle against the juntas tyranny. If you hate loggers it doesn't mean that you won't read newspapers or wipe you bottom.

Do these new guys do a real visarun aswell or is it limited to border-runs? I like to know since a few of my friends need "visa-runs" and ask me for options and as far as i know there just aint anything i would want to recommend. So, the new "familytrip"-runners, they do visaruns or not?? Edited November 4, 2007 by mattias33
