sbk's guess is good - ginger is the only one I am familiar with that has a name resembling what you wrote.

Ginger is ขิง in Thai. But there may well be others. Transcribed Thai without tone indications makes it very difficult to guess unless one is a native speaker - the second word could theoretically be written in at least 30 different ways.

If you could give the Thai spelling I'd be able to answer within a minute... a picture or a description of its features, or how it is used, would also help.

Personally I've never heard of 'king' (ginger) being prefixed with 'pak' (vegetable) before in Thailand. I have no other suggestions to offer though.

Me neither but that was the only one I could think of.

hmmmm...i don't think it's ginger...i asked the speaker again who says "it's like peking" which left me completely baffled hahaha...and it's a green vegetable. maybe i'll try to get him to write it in thai and post it here again :o
