earlofwindermere
I come from a country where you work 8 hours and get a 1 hour lunch break in the middle. As a result, you are technically at work for 9 hours. What is the situation in Thailand? I have a new staff member that has told me that lunch hours are counted when they work 8 hours at the office. Is this true? According to the BOI, it says All employees are entitled to a daily rest period of at least one hour after working five consecutive hours. The employer and the employee may arrange the daily rest period to be shorter than one hour at each time, but it must not be less than one hour a day in total.... How should we interpret this? Is the rest hour paid or not paid? Thanks

Tywais
At most if not all government offices, including the university I work at, it's 8 hours of work and 1 hour for lunch - 9 hour day.

cclub75
And what about dinner ? And sleep ? You want to pay them too ? This "staff" obviously tries to explain to you that they have some nice "traditions" (linked to some imaginary law) in the company, and that it would be very impolite, improper for you (the farang) to change this so sweet and sabai deal ! Wake up. Fire him.
