One Way Ticket

Featured Replies

I will be flying from the Uk to BKK via Dubai with a one way ticket, however i have a multiple O visa. I assume this is ok although on the UK Thai consulate website there is a note advising that some airlines may not allow boarding with a one way ticket - even with a visa. It further states that there is no problem with entry into thailand. Does anyone have any experience with this. I think the advice may be a bit extreme.

Thanks :o

From the US, no problem with a visa going one way. You might print that part from the embassy website about no problem entering Thailand to show them if there is a problem. You could also call the airline and they should be obligated to tell you their official policy for Thailand. However, what they tell you on the phone may not be what they actually enforce.

I have flown with Emirates,Etihad and KLM from Birmingham and never had a problem.

With a visa you won't have a problem.

Yep ^^^

Done it numerous times, usually on the return half of a ticket. Never had any issues whatever apart from finding the visa for check-in staff amongst the dozens of others (not just for Thailand).

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

That does not guarantee there will not be an issue. I have had problems with Thai, United and NWA in the past (before 9-11) - all were resolved at higher level (believe Thai had to go to station manager level). Check-in people do not like one-way tickets and believe UK was being very strict several years ago (after 9-11) (BA I believe). But agree there should not be any serious trouble. My worst experience was, after getting approval, having seat assignment canceled five times, by someone with management level access, in less than an hour. I finally boarded with a canceled seat and crew found me a place. I hate to fly!

Following posts here about airlines refusing to carry passengers with a proper Visa but without an onward flight from Thailand I contacted Thai Airways who replied as below, flight is from London UK to Bangkok.

Dear Sir,

Please be advised that Thai will accept you for travel on a one way ticket provided you can proove that you have enough funds for your stay and you have a British passport.

Regards,

Thai

Hi, I have purchased a one way ticket to Bangkok with Thai and have since read about the possibility of not being allowed to travel without an onward ticket. As I have a Thai Non-Immigrant "O" Visa wilI I be allowed to travel without having an onward ticket? Many thanks David howden

Thanks to everyone for helpfull advice :o:D:D

But how much funds is enough ?

Chances are, if you check in when it is busy you will not have any problems at all. And whatever you beleive and have been infomrmed to be policy will change depending upone who you have contact with. Nevertheless, if you have a printout of this email and a recent bank satments showing a balance of over £50K, then you wont have any problems.

£50K is of course well over what is required. I can live in Thailand on this for 15 years ! But no one will ague that you dont have apparent sufficient funds, unless you wish to carry that amout in cash or travellers cheques !
