Hi

I am holidaying in the Chiang Mai/Chiang Rai region later this month and I will need to get another 30day stamp in the passport, can you tell me if there is a visa run service in either city and what border post is used up there. I am holidaying with my family so would rather pay for a service to ensure no hassles/delays during my holiday

any help or advice, contact numbers names etc much appreciated

The borderrun you will have to make at Mae Sai . Just up north from Chiang rai .

There are no visa agencies for that , you will have to walk physically

over the border , pay 500 baht the person or 10 Us dollars for the Myanmar stamp .

Walk back to Thai checkpoint for your next 30 days stamp .

Actually it is pretty nice day trip to walk and shop a little at Tachilek ( the Myanmar's

border village) with your family , nothing to worry about .

Make sure you have 20k per family with you when crossing Thai immigration .

not that they would ask you to show it , but they could .

Before you walk over the border you will have to go to Maesai immigration office first to

let them take out your TM card (white paper in your passport ) and stamp the departure stamp .

Its about 2- 3 km from the border cross .

Have a nice trip . :o

Its very easy and straightforward at Mae sai. I've been out and back in Ten mins. The burmese officials who seem to be always very friendly, unlike some officials I could mention, They take your photograph and then ask you wether your going straight back or going to do some shopping. If your staying they hold on to your passport and give you a sort of card. If your going straight back they stamp you in , take your 500 baht and immedialtely stamp you out.

Just one point, No need to go to Mai sai immigration as stated; with your TM card. They take it from you at the border crossing.

stay in chiang rai, rent a car/minibus with driver for the day ~1200-1500 baht go to the border, and also visit some of the local attractions, hot spring, cave, kuomintang tea village, golden triangle, doi tung garden and some more. tachilek the burmese border town offer also a little holiday trip attraction, local temple hill, a market with lots of product from china, outer space plastic toys, dried fruit as small present for your thai friends.

there are a lot of travel agency offering a tour around that area, they also know how to handle your visa run and will assist you at the border, you can turn your visa run into a family holiday day trip easy, no day lost. no need for special recommendation, all these agency are more or less same, also no need for call beforehand.

have fun with your family. keep in mind is cold season now and really a little bit colder in the beautiful north at night and morning time.
