Does anyone know a good way to get from Khon Kaen airport to Mukdahan? Ideally, I'd like to take a car serive or taxi. I'll arrive in Khon Kaen at 8:15 PM. Will I be able to find a car and driver at the airpiort to get me to Mukdahan? What might it cost?

Any advice is appreciated... recomendations would be great. Any particluar service available where I can book in advance?

buses are no option after dark- none are going.

Ive arrived on a sat-afternoon at khKhaen last yr and cannot remember much- there was a minibus into town for the very few pax who did not have anything. NO taximeters there, thats only a very recent thing in towns out of BKK.

You most likely have some contact to go to (thats the usual thing for isan-visitors) ask THEM to rent a minibus/car from Muk to pick you up - most likely the best+cost effective way

I'd think it might be better to fly up to Nakhon Phnom or Sakhon Nakhon, they're considerably closer to Mukdahan than KK.  Flights to both late afternoon, evening, but out of Swampyboom Airport rather than the TG to KK from Don Muang on PB Air.

If you don't have a local contact, reckon a travel agent up at either place could set you up with a ride, for a fee, of course, that late in the evening.

This might be an option worth considering.

I made a deal this year for a Honda Jazz with driver for 1.500 bath + gas. Pick up in airport.

The destination was aprox. half way from Khon Kaen to Mukdahan.

Your traveltime should be about 3,5-4 hours.

If you are many - or you want to take a nap, the minivan with driver option is 1.800 bath/12 hours

Thanks for your replies.

I contacted http://autohirekhonkaen.cheapcharlies-kk.com/ and all their cars were booked. They suggested I call Narujee Cars Khon Kaen... 043224220. They said they could provide a car and driver for about 1000 baht plus gas (they weren't really clear ont he price up front.)

But in the end, my wife decided to drive in to KK to pick me up.

On they way back to BKK, interestingly, we drove right past the airport in Roi Et... seemed like it was only about an hour from Mukdahan. Next time I'll fly there (albeit out of Suvanaphum on PB Air.)
