Day Before Election - Saturday December 23rd

Featured Replies

hey there,

I am coming back from Oz to spend two weeks in LOS as from the 22nd December. Given the general election on the next day (Sunday 23rd), I was wondering if you folks had heard if 'they' shall be serving alcohol on the Saturday night???

I remember a few years back they didn't serve any in order to entice folks back to their tambons to vote with no hangover...

Cheers for any info,

James

The law sez not, you'll have to wait and see.

Not likely in Bangkok, other places are known to go dark and serve out of cups. :o

i'll be on the night train heading south to surat thani on the saturday night before the elections. anyone have any experience if the trains will serve beer (in paper cup ?)or should i bring my own for the trip down? and do shops sell beer on the saturday b4 the election?

Best bet for most punters is to buy your beer or spirits in advance. :D

That said, I have expeienced numerous election days with alcohol bans in Thailand & have always been able to find a shop willing to sell during the ban.....

Bars & clubs seem to toe the line. :o

Pour a bottle of Johnny Black into a coke bottle. Go round the bars buying soda. You'll save a fortune.

If you want to know other ways of hiding booze, just ask - I was an expert for years.

This year the Saturday is also election day for those who are not in their resident provinces (at least in Pattaya) so I would imagine it will be dry. Last year the King's birthday was wet but I suspect that this will also be dry. The 23rd is surely dry.

Personally, I suspect that in Pattaya, there will always be somewhere open but it will be very strictly policed and because of the time of year, it is too risky to get closed down for a month or two.
