Satellite/cable Tv

Featured Replies

How can I get a subscription for international tv programs? Which is the best subscription provider available in Chieng Rai? Do they include high-speed Internet with a program subscription? I will be living 5 km. south of the city.

One more question :o , what countries can we receive a satellite signal in Chieng Rai? US too???

They have a monopoly on international TV programmes, are overpriced , repeat their programmes very often and go off when it rains.

There are alternatives but we are not allowed to talk about them here because they are illegal.

I don´t think the alternatives are illegal.

But there is a shop in the corner where you go to Norhern Farm.

I have had their system for 4.5 years and I am very happy with that.

What Tayto is refering to is that many of the satelite companies sell dishes and make copies of cards that allow access to overseas satelite programs. This is piracy and illegal - consequently because the rules of Thai Visa say - do not discuss anything that is illegal - we cannot allow those conversations. If we did the board would be breaking Thai Law.

UBC or truevision located up near Big C offers a good selection of programs. I aslo bought a satilite dish that had 200 channels from a shop in town. Most of the channels were mixed language but still had some English speaking movies, I think I started to develop my Indonesian language from this service? The reason I got this was I wanted to watch the Australian Rugby league on the TV. My brother in law had a cable service that had limited channels but was a lot cheaper. I can't remember what the name of his service was.

Although UBC was a lot more expensive I enjoyed its service. If you are to get a dish from in town just see what services you can pick up, if you can't get much of what you want or you may find UBC has the same programs go for the UBC/Truevision.

Some days the only contact I had with English was by the TV. Most of the people around me only spoke Thai except for my wife and brotherin law.

Just as a point of clarification, what is the difference in talking about pirated video signals vs (where to buy) pirated DVD's?

There is no difference. Both are illegal under Thai law and consequently not allowed on Thai Visa. If you wish to discuss this further please send me a pm. It cannot be discussed on the open forum.

Look good to me. I should try both "overpriced" and "illegal." Will give a full-report by the end of next year.

:o Haven't made it to Thailand yet!!!

Thanks.
