A friend of mine here in Bangkok holds a dual citizenship of Sweden and the United States. When she arrived in Bangkok, she entered with her Swedish passport. Everyone where I work has to submit their passport for our Visas to be renewed for the coming year in December and November. She is going to the States in December and may not have her Swedish passport back in time to get her flight. To avoid pushing her flight back, she was thinking of crossing a border (Burma or Cambodia) by foot, leaving with her Swedish passport (which she entered on) and re-entering with her American passport before she submits her Swedish passport to be renewed. Then she will leave on her American passport and come back in on it, and I guess do a land crossing again to bring her renewed work visa in her Swedish passport back into effect.

Is this allowable possible illegal? Thanks

Can not be done at a land crossing as they require a stamp history for entry/exit - it could be done on a quick trip to Singapore or somewhere like that by air. But once she leaves on the Swedish passport her extension of stay and work permit are dead so it will not help her. Suspect she needs to adjust her plans or start her employment process over after she returns.

I may be able to help.

The company I work for do a similar thing in that they request the passports a few weeks in advance to prepare all the extension applications. However if you really press them, they will admit they only need the passport on the day of the extension. The reason they ask for it in advance is for the convenience of their admin. They will certainly need copies of it though.

So your friend can explain the situation and I think your office will oblige. They do not submit the passport in advance to immigration and an extension could only be issued when your friend was in Thailand.

She also would need a re-entry permit and to be back in time for 30 day passport return to immigration (do not believe a work based extension is approved on first application).

I assume you are talking about renewing a Non Imm B visa in Thailand?

That will not be possible if she is not in the country at the time,

as shown by an entry stamp in her passport.
