Linguistics Degree By Distance Learning

Featured Replies

I'm interested in doing a linguistics degree by distance learning, but Googling hasn't helped me find what I'm looking for. Does anyone know of a Bachelors Degree in linguistics that can be done remotely?

To be more specific, I'm not looking for a degree in Applied Linguistics or in English Linguistics.

I don't care which country/university the degree is from (I want to study out of pure interest - not because I want to "use" the degree).

Distance learning tends to offer post-graduate courses rather than undergraduate ones. However, it is possible to find what you're looking for. See

http://www.une.edu.au/lcl/ and http://senate.mq.edu.au/admission.htm#distance .

Also consider some of the more substantial TEFL courses - many can be done online and will give a grounding in linguistics.

Good luck :o.

UMass offers online MA in linguistics, UMinn offers BA in linguistics. Cheaper if you are American, if you are Australian then I'd go for spectrum's list.

If I were you, I'd look for courses being offered from online schools that were in my own country--seems to be cheaper that way.

We have a lengthy thread about continuing education (including distance education) in the Teacher's Subforum. When this thread has reached its end it will be merged with that thread- you may wish to check out the additional information there.
