This is the same group that has been at it before. Don’t be afraid to break their fingers, others have. I doubt they will get sympathy from anyone. That tends to keep them away for a while until they heal.

The ones with the flowers are the worst ones, two of them rush up to you and get well within your comfort envelop. Watch the one that is not talking to you.

Give them the evil eye and walk towards them like you know they hit you, they will run like crazy...

:o Exactly what I did a couple of years ago. I got so fed up with the little b*ggers tugging at my shirt and trousers that when I saw then running towards me, I bent forward, made my mouth into a snarl, growled loudly and raised my hands like a tiger about to claw them.

The people eating at the tables on the pavement in soi 4 must've thought I was crazy, but I didn't get bothered by those kids again.

Lets not forget about the cute little kids tripping you while the others pick your pocket . I have seen this 2 times on soi 7 at sukvhumvit.

And you reported this to the authorities, of course.

First of all you cannot tell difference from a pakistani / indian/bangladeshi / and so many countruies of middle east as well as southern thai YALA SURATHANI etc provinces.

How do you know he can't tell the difference? Maybe he can and he knows an Indian when he sees one.

I was speaking to a guy in Golden Bar opposite Nana a few weeks ago, when a young flower seller pinched 500USD from his pocket when i was staring straight at him, she was Indian about 10-12 years old, apparantly her and her friends are renowned for it.

And you told the guy about this and got the money back?

She was a very good pickpocket whilst nudging him to buy flowers she grabbed the money when i was conversing with him.

The police got the girl 5 minutes after the event and the money was gone.

As she was of Indian appearance how should i describe her?

Could it not be that someone accidently bumped into you, your money fell out and a kindly Indian chap pointed it out to you?

No? I suppose not . . .

no way! it is a well known fact that all dark skinned inhabitants of this planet are thiefs and goons (except a few which carry a belgian passport).

:o

I STRONGLY object to that slur about 'dark-skiinned' people, sir! I DEMAND you retract the above statement FORTHWITH, or risk being HEAVILY sanctioned ! :D

Anyone who travels in a third-world/developing country without putting their money in a money belt, or at the very least, the pocket of a pair of cargo pants (with a zipper and velcro fastener over that), deserves to be relieved of their ill-protected wealth. :o

Well I travel all the time in cargo pants and believe me, unless the thieves are professional dwarf pickpockets they ain't going to steal a wallet from the side-pocket level (which is much lower than other pockets) that easily.

The back-pocket is the weak-spot that pick-pockets look for.

Im seriously asking, where does your philosophy that anything bad reported is immediately false or blown out of proportion coming from?

Damian

You must be new to Thai Visa message boards where farangs are all dewey-eyed victims of sinister or insipid Thais (and apparently other darker-than-thou types).

While most blowhards spin their tales of imaginary slights and fictionalized confrontations (picture white farang wearing white hat while riding white horse slaying evil Thai dragon) at a local pub, some people can't even draw an audience of inebriated fellow-travellers, so they resort to sharing their collective white-man's-burdens on TV.

Here there's almost always an appreciative reception accorded any tale that implies that the refugees from farangland are innately superior to the Mongol (or mongrel?) hordes.

Winston Churchill would have fit right in, stating the farang credo:

"Why should we Anglo-Saxons apologize for being superior?" Winston Churchill once growled in exasperation. "We are superior."

http://www.opinionjournal.com/la/?id=110010834

Apparently this same xenophobic, isolationism is alive and well despite overwhelming evidence to support a contrary view. I suspect a fair number of TV contributors also believe the world is flat.

So if a few people respond negatively to the seemingly endless supply of ridiculous posts, you can hardly be surprised.

Come on people! The Indians in Thailand are rich. They don't need to dispatch gangs of urchins to relieve hapless farangs of their riches.

I think its Bengali street urchins.

wow, I hadnt thought of that! Evil rich Indians sending out their minions to fleece the masses and increase their riches.....

Uh, Chin my friend, nobody said they were being sent out by upstanding citizens omg haha. More like they are poor and are working the same scam they would back home. And all on thier own with no guidance from an evil mastermind. But to believe ALL Indians are rich in a certain country is jumping to some conclusions no? Are all falangs rich in Thailand? Or Chinese in Thailand? Newp.

please have mercy Your Honour and dole out a lenient sentence. it's not my fault but it's that thing what people call alcohol that makes me utter untrue statements.

You see it's like this.

I'm not saying these things aren't scams. I'm not saying there arent scams in Thailand. Of course there are and - frankly - I welcome them. I applaud them. Bring them on. Promote them. I personally would love to see more scams perpetrated on our clueless farang community because it's social darwinism in action. Those who are intelligent, have their wits about them and think bumbags and mobile phones clipped onto belts are signs of extreme poor taste, don't seem to have these thing happen to them. On the contrary, it's only the clueless that got done and, if the social darwinist theme works, such attacks will scare them away, send them home and eventually make them extinct.

A dam_n good thing too. The farang gene pool rises as a result.

Can you guys start some more thought provoking threads similar to this one on the following topics:

Why you shouldn't drink and drive

Why you should wear a condom during sex

Why you shouldn't possess illegal drugs

Why women should not wear very short skirts and walk down dark alleys in the middle of the night

Why you shouldn't insult the monarchy

Why you should check to make sure the electronics you buy actually work and aren't used or fake

Why you should be wary of buying gems from guys who approach you in 711.

Why you should not buy a house in a woman's name who is half your age

....You can never have too much awareness.

Ahhhh ok! Now I'm beginning to understand! Alright I kinda agree with you, erspecially about bumbags and tacky mobile belt clips... ick. But your line of thought is a little dangerous, there are really horrible things that happen to NICE SMART PEOPLE too, by your logic, bad things happen to bad people.... so if something bad happened it must be because you are bad...... blaming the victim.

Tony we werent discussing "what ifs" and "whys", we were talking about an actual event so your post isnt really appropriate.

No, you misunderstand very slightly Damian.

I prefer to think of it as 'stupid people letting stupid things happen to them'. It's a variation on the Buddhist notion of karma ;-)

So it is OK for those that do not take care of themselves to be victimized? I guess you think that kids that get molested deserved it because they did not know any better and talked to strangers? Old people that are maybe a little to trusting in their old age, I guess it is OK to take advantage of them and steal their life savings?

Getting your pocket picked doesn't mean you are stupid. If the pickpocket is a professional, you should never notice, no matter how smart you think you are. You're only being stupid if the pickpockets are not so good and it's obvious they're trying to pick your pocket, like the dumbass ladyboy who tried to pick my pocket near Asok and got mad and swore at me when she realized I wasn't falling over drunk and thus couldn't get her huge hands in my pocket to get my money. Sheesh, sorry ladyboy that you suck at pickpocketing.
