My husband would like to apply for one year visa . WE got married 7 months ago and he's working in Phuket as well. SO the question is what papers we need to show the immigration officer, do you ever know exactly ? because we've been the 4 times with papers they told us to bring since May but there was no progress. A few farang told me they had to pay about 20K extra as well,is that right?(even know you got all papers you're asked for)

If he is working he must have a non immigrant visa and a work permit already. What he wants now is a one year extension of stay from Immigration. That could be based on his work or family (with different requirements). If based on family (which is normally best as you don't have to leave for a new visa if you lose your job) you and he have to show proof of 40k per month income by tax payments (which may be previous few month or last year depending on office). Other than that normal copies of passport/entry card/your ID card/Home register/bank passbook/bank letter of account balance/photos of home-house number with TM.7 filled out with current photo attached and payment of 1,900 baht.

we showed all of those you said, and tax 90,91, marriage certificate and the update one as well to show we're still together, and i said i can bring all the tax salary receipts since Jan.07 to Imm. if they wanted, but still we haven't got it. First they asked for proof of income 40K a month and we got 47K a month ( tax salary, por ngor dor 1) and when we got there they asked for more.

Have you made application? Is it under review? How long has it been?

When you say "still we haven't got it" we don't know if your application/payment has been made or not. Immigration can ask for various documents if they feel the need so there is no exact answer we can provide - we can only advise on the information you provide.

Can't talk about what they may require in Phuket, nor can I talk about what they may require in Chiang Mai for someone not quite as handsome as me. However, I've just got my third one-year extension (Yesterday) stamped in my passport at Chiang Mai immigration. That's based on Thai spouse. Financial requirements met by means of the to salaries (she 10,000 , me 30,000) we get as employees in our own co., ltd.

Here's the documentation we brought along at the first visit (92 sheets):

Passport (all used pages)

Wife's ID + Tabien Bahn

Marriage license

Workpermit (all used pages)

My bankbook (all used pages)

Wife's bankbook (all used pages)

Bank confirmation my balance

Bank confirmation her balance

Por Ngor Dor 1 + attachments + receipts for the last 3 months (doc for tax withheld by employer)

Por Ngor Dor 91 (total income and tax for 2006)

Map sketch

4 color photos

They didn't want neither the map nor the photos. Everything else was appreciated well enough but they had some hitherto unheard of requirements. We had to go home and bring this further documentation:

Employment contract for me

Employment contract for her

Por Kor 0401 (company's registration certificate )

Chor Mor 001794 (some doc that states my signatory rights among other things)

That all folks. I think the moral of the latter four items is that in Chiang Mai it might not work just to put some money on wife's account and have her throw some crumbs at the tax office (as suggested in quite many threads, here) - they might also want documentation that the money actually is legitimate income. And, as a matter of fact: the requirements, taken literally, talk about income - not tax payment (as other than means of documentation).

On a side note: Extending one's workpermit in Chiang Mai (on premises as above) is a piece of cake - all it takes is a copy of passports photo page and the page with the new extension stamp. - (However, that ease doesn't seem to apply generally - another guy, applying for WP-extension, was asked to bring along a company balance sheet).
