Five male careers at risk of impotence

BANGKOK: -- There is bad news for all men who are gynecologists, nurses, police, soldiers and airplane pilots.

A senior doctor has warned that men in these professions face a high risk of impotence after they turn fifty.

These professions involve hard work with long and odd-hours, and the likelihood of inadequate sleep and exercise.

These conditions will become a serious problem for men when they enter the so-called “the golden age”.

As a man gets older, his body creates less and less melatonin hormone which controls sleep.

This will cause him to fall into a deep asleep quickly, but makes it easier to wake him up.

It also leads to the depletion of the body’s testosterone level.

The lower testosterone hormone levels in males over fifty creates symptoms which include the loss of energy, lack of concentration, moodiness and impotence, said Dr. Pansak Sukara-rirk, a gynecologist and the President of the Golden Age’s Life Quality Club.

The symptoms though, are easy to be cured.

Eating correctly, regular exercise and the right sleep patterns are the keys to fixing this.

In cases of very low levels of testosterone, doctors may prescribe hormonal treatment, mostly in the form of pills, to raise the level, Dr. Pansak said.
