Installing Adsl Modem For True Internet

I am just about to sign up for True Internet "Fast" Internet.

I already have a decent ADSL modem, and don't really want to have to buy a new from their list of 3 'allowed' modems.

So my question is how easy is it to install True Internet without having one of their allowed modems?

What settings will I need for my ADSL modem? Is it PPPoA or PPPoE? And what about VPI and VCI settings? I had the modem working in the UK but I don't have any idea if the settings will be the same.

Do True Internet supply an installation CD? And if so, will it only work with their list of 3 recommended modems?

I sign up for True ADSL too. but i use The modem that they allowed 'coz i never had it before. So i'm not sure u can use ur own modem or not. Did u ask them.

However, The modem also has CD installation, and so easy to install.

Yeah, just use your own modem...the settings are:

Encap = PPPoE

VPI = 0, VCI = 100

Most USB ADSL modems have totally incompatible drivers, so getting an installation CD from someone else's modem isn't going to work.

Your modem will work if it supports G.Dmt and PPPoE (RFC2516). Most modems for POTS do.

why are running ADSL with usb ?

so much slower than ethernet

and by the way, easier to install ...

set the ethernet card, set it to dhcp ...

and go on

Why do most users in Thailand use USB? Choice. There isn't much choice in Thailand. Nearly all available modems are USB modems. Most ethernet modems are routers, and more expensive.

Ethernet modems aren't necessarily faster (USB's speed is 12mbits, more than enough for Thailand's speeds). Ethernet modems are easier to setup, and have less problems with drivers.

I just forgot that in Europe we are lucky to have modem which are for most of them routers as well...

I just noticed that :

1: easier to install

2: run faster

3: no conflict with usb (wathever your motherboard's chip is)

and much more secure on any network

Bought a router modem ( not on the True list)

put in the setting and i could see it talking

but would not connect

tried loads of configurations

after many phone calls (true didnt want to know) it was discovered that the old dial up modem setting were hijacking the connection

so the first thing to do before setting up ether net is remove the old dial up modem settings
