I'm looking for a place to sell a stamp collection. I heard there are some reliable international markets in Thailand, places like Bangkok or Phyket. Does anyone know anything about it? I appreciate your feedback on this very much.

There are about 15 dealers outside the main PO on Charoen Krung on Saturday and Sunday morning, but they are just that, dealers. They will only offer you dealer's price for your collection.

If you have the time then to get the best price put either the whole collection as one lot on ebay, or split it into country lots on ebay, or if it is a large collection, and you have the time , then split it down into sets on ebay. That way you reach a far larger audience and you'll get a far better price.

There is also another choice. You can sell on ebay but through a Thai dealer. This saves you the problem of setting yourself up as an ebay seller and handling all the scanning of lots, posting the lots on ebay and dealing with the buyers and then the postage and packing. I have used such a dealer many times before to sell duplicates from my collection. He is most trustworthy and I believe charges ten percent + the ebay listing fees. If you have a good enough collection then I believe this is the way to go.

The latest catalogue of Thai stamps, Sakserm's, is nearly four years out of date and classic Thai stamps are commanding high prices now, often well over catalogue price. Have a look on ebay to check the current prices.

I have collected Thai stamps for many years now and it's rare for me to find anything to buy at the stamp bourse (market) at Charoen Krung. But it's also just as rare for me not be be bidding on an ebay lot at any given time.

If you are interested in the dealer who sells for you on ebay on commission then PM me and I'll send you his email address.

Of course if your collection is full of surcharged stamps from the reign of Rama V then I'll pay you 25% of catalogue price!

BrianW,

UK stamps are not my thing but a quick look at ebay UK and

UK FDC shows that FDC are not popular and seem to me to be

very cheap for a stamp and cover over 30 years old.

Most lots don't even seem to have attracted one 99p bid.

So you're not going to retire on the proceeds, sorry.

Leave them to your children/grandchildren.

As a collector my Christmas cards are always a riot of different stamps in blocks and strips, often covering the whole of the front of the envelope.

My family know to save the envelopes for me and they are brought back by whomsoever is visiting next.

Use real stamps, not those awful pre-printed sticky labels.
