Hi all,

I have arrived here from Australia without a visa and I am looking at staying for 2-3 months on a tourist visa, with the possibility of commencing study in Thailand. I am not expecting to leave the country in the mean time and the main goal is to maximise time before making the decision to undertake study.

I am confused at how I will obtain this visa if I have to leave the country and there is some processing time involved.

Assuming this visa cannot be obtained locally (?) so would the application be processsed, in say Singapore, on the same day?

Or will I obtain the visa here, leave the country when my permission to stay expires and re-enter with this visa?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Alex

You must leave Thailand. You make application at a Royal Thai Consulate in morning and obtain visa the next workday afternoon (in most cases). It will cost about 1,000 baht and require several 4x6cm photos/copy of your passport.

Thanks for your reply lopburi, I appreciate the help.

Further to your response, my plan and some more questions:

I will leave the country and apply for a 2 month tourist visa.

Q1. If I wish to stay longer, I've read I can extend the visa by 1 month. Will I need to leave for this extension?

Q2. If I wish to stay and study at the end of the 2 (or 3, if possible) months, must I apply for a student visa and leave the country again?

Q3. Apart from university degrees, where can I find info on other courses making me eligible for student visa (music tuition in particular)?

Thanks again,

Alex

1. 30 day extension normally available from an immigration office in Thailand.

2. You would most likely have to obtain paperwork and exit country to obtain and ED visa.

3. There is a language school advertising here but you would probably have to ask around music sources for any such possibilities that they could suggest.
