mr_hippo
Did you know some countries don't have an autumn, and some people live in parts of the world where 'spring' is at a different time of year?I've had people asking me am I going home for summer break (mid this year)! They know I come from Australia. <deleted>? Are you the head of the PC word police? Telling people what words they can and cannot use. Spring - northern hemispere is generally about March, southern hemisphere around September. Fall/autumn generally about 6 months later. I do not know enough about the Australian education system but would it be fair of me to assume that schools in Australia have a break in their summer? I've had people asking me am I going home [They mean Australia!] for the [Australian] summer break.

I think he is commenting on the fact that it has not occurred to these people that other people's home countries/the weather thereof don't necessarily operate in the same that theirs do. All Australians will be familiar with this experience . Once an American asked if we use US $ in Australia .
mogoso
"fall" is not even proper English. Yes it is. The English used it before they even colonised Virginia, the folks that went over on the "Mayflower" (The ones in the funny big hats) took it with them. (P.S. I'm not American, by the way, but someone loosely studying the English language for 60 years. Still hoping to learn some more, but the "plurry" thing keeps changing........ ) Mayflower didn't go to Virgimia, it went to Plymouth, Mass. They wore the funny party hats. The colony in Virginia was Jamestown and it failed.
