Looking for advice! If a farang (male) marries a Thai wife and elects to live in Thailand, is he responsible for debts previously incurred by his wife?

And all the debts that are to follow.................. :o

...and her parent's, sister's, brother's, Uncle's, Aunt's, Cousin's, Grandparent's, Buffalo's....so on.

Legally, no. However, if she put up her land a assurance and you are living on it and she fails to pay - well, guess. If you buy sopme land and put it in her name then it is a target for repossesion. If she owes money to loan sharks (or the mafia) then they will come to you as the most likely source - they don't understand "Nothing to do with me mate" and its hard to say anyway while you're busy screaming "Please don't break anymore fingers".

You beat me to it @ Wolfie................

She is probably up to her neck in gambling debts, they may spare her and kill her new husband instead! :o

Legally you are only responsible for each others finances after you got married.

Listen to the above posters though, this is Thailand, the law is probably the least of your worries concerning debt.
