Does anyone have any leads on accomodation rented or sale in Muang Samsip, the Amphur town about 30+km north of Ubon. I appreciate its a bit of a long shot.

Not a long shot. I've been there twice myself to visit extended family (wife's cousin) who live in one of the villages there. We travelled by car from Ubon. What type of house are you looking for and what budget do you have?
