Removal Of Old Sticker's

Featured Replies

I have an old motorbike and I will soon be giving it a respray. I will need to remove the old stickers, this job is never very simple and takes hours of scraping and sanding. I have tried using a hair drier ect but have never had much success ,

Do I have hours of scraping ahead of me or does someone know a simple way of doing it without taking it to a spray shop ?

Hair drier wont get hot enough, go to a bodyshop, they should have an industrial one and will whip em off in no time !

Hello Undercover,

First of all there are many types of stickers. The main groups are plastic and paper based stickers.

The plastic bases sticker go the best with a paint stripper hot air gun and for the paper you must try to find the solution to make the glue lose again. Tri, thinner, white spirit or petrol do most times the work. After removing the stickers watch out that that really all glue is removed. If there stay glue rests in the paint your new paint can be affected after some time by the glue in most times matt spots.

The best and most sure is grid, glass or sand blasssting. After this you then start on the pure and clean metal with the build up from your primer and paint layers.

Regards :o

For stickers on glass I just use a strip of wet cling wrap.

Place it over the sticker for about a half hour and it will peel off in one piece.

What a novel idea. I must try that one.

On a useful note, Ive always just pulled the stickers off carefully, and then used vodka for the residue left.

An a dubious note, why wouldnt the bodyshop prepare the surface for painting?
