I recently recieved a 90 day Single Entry Non-Immigrant B Visa from the United States on October 20. It expires on January 20.

However, I am going to Vietnam for New Year's, which brings up the question of "How do I reenter Thailand?"

Prior to October, I lived in Thailand for 3 months, doing a visa run each month. Thus, my understanding is that I cannot use the 30-day tourist visa until February at the earliest.

Is there a way to get my Single Entry Visa turned into a Multiple Entry Visa, and extended, prior to the visit to Vietnam?

Or, is there a way to get a fresh visa for Thailand while in Vietnam?

Or, have I misinterpreted the 30-day tourist visa regulations?

If anyone has idea on this one I will be extremely grateful for your help... or if anyone can point me in the direction of somewhere else to find the answers, that would also be splendid. Thank you!!

The date on the visa, is the date that you have to enter Thailand. You should have an entry stamp from when you entered Thailand. It should be 90 days from the date you entered Thailand. This is the date that you should be concerned with being able to stay until, not the one on the visa.

That being said, you can apply for a re-entry permit from immigration (can do at the airport) before going to Vietnam. That will keep your visa valid. You will be able to return to Thailand and remain until the date on the original entry stamp in your passport.

As an example, if you come on a 90 day visa, you get a stamp that says you can stay for 90 days. You get a reentry permit. You stay for 30 days in Thailand, go to Vietnam for 30 days, then you can return using your re-entry permit, and stay for another 30 days. You lose the days that you were in Vietnam, but you get to leave and come back with the same visa.
