Hi all

I had an interesting experience today at the Thai consulate in Guangzhou. My wife was denied a tourist visa on the basis that she had 2 tourist visa`s in her passport both from this year (not back to back as she is only aloud 1 mnth TR and not 2 mnths as most european countries)with one TR being extended in Bangkok. We have gotton all our Thai visa`s in Guangzhou and have never had any problems luckily I had a talk to the staff and they gave her a transit visa which is all she needed anyway as we are back to europe for Xmas.

I have been reading the Penang thread have noted the cracking down of TR visa`s. I do feel it is a little excesive and it has made Thailand alot less attractive for us and am glad to say that I have just sold my Condo in Bangkok and am looking forward to taking my money somewhere else.

O.K rant over :o

Good rant and good luck. You were smart to sell your condo and take your money out. As we heard from the top yesterday, Thailand will be facing a crisis soon enough and they don't seem to need farang around to get in the way of the collapse. Consider yourself lucky to get out now and not have to remain here to watch the collapse as it occurs. No, the sky is not falling, but I think the soon to be sinking economy, negative international opinion and other real important factors will be the ultimate wake up call. Actually, the farang visitors and their monetary contributions are a very small part of the overall picture.

It will be interesting to sit on the beach, drink a beer and watch the country collapse. I think the farang should all make a massive exodus out of Thailand and venture over to Vietnam, Cambodia, or other nearby place for fun and games.

Cheers.

Move on like I did about 7 months ago. I did not have any visa problem but Foreigners are not wanted in Thailand only their money. I just got fed up with the Thai B/S and the attitude of the Thais. The country has not changed but the people sure have.

Sell up & get out while you still have the chance.

Plenty of better places to live.

There was, I think a Norwegian fellow on here a couple of months ago

and he was also only issued a transit visa at Guangzhou. His assessment

was that the local bureaucracy preferred dealing with visa agents. There

are still a lot of kind, embarassingly nice Thai people around, but the

exceptions, warranted or not, really go out of their way to ruin your day. :o

Possible ,I noticed yesterday that for visa`s for Chinese citizens they were being organised by agents. It wouldn`t have made a difference to our situation I don`t think.Finding a visa agent is a hard enough job in GZ with the lack of their english skills and my Chinese skills it`s just easier to go directly to the consulate.

The point I was trying to make is that in the last 10 years of travelling to Thailand(I m in Thailand about 6 mnths a year staying no longer than 2 mnths at a time on average)I have never had any problems until now and I don`t see it getting much easier in the future,I think this is the straw that broke the camel`s back for me and I wont regret making Hong Kong or Penang my asian hub next year instead of Thailand.
