Security to be beefed up in Bangkok during holidays

BANGKOK: -- Police will beef up security around Bangkok for the approaching New Year Festival especially at banks, gold shops, gas stations and convenient stores as precaution, said Metropolitan police chief Pol Lt Gen Assawin Kwanmuang Tuesday.

The Metropolitan Police Headquarters had instructed Metropolitan Police Area 1 to 9 and all police stations to set up checkpoints for suspicious vehicles carrying war weapons and illegal items from December 15 on.

Patrolling officers would be dispatched to check crime-prone areas around the clock including banks, gold shops, convenient stores, gas stations and also to provide stricter security to government offices, embassies, and New Year party venues, he said.

Bomb squads would also be prepared to timely contain a violence if it occurred, he said, the city police also adjusted security plans to be stricter. He expressed confidence the officers could cover all area across Bangkok to prevent any possible violent incident.

pointless to announce roadblocks against terrorists (15.12) before the date.

And why convenient shops and gold shops are more important to the security than bus, underground and train stations, bridges and public transport?
