Okay,

I've finished my contract and the business will cancel my work permit sometime next week.

I have a multiple entry Non B Visa and read recently that the work permit is tied to the Visa, not the other way around.

HOWEVER, a visit to the powers that be at immigration today advised that I have to come back with the receipt of cancellation of the work permit.

Then the Immigration department will cancel my Non B, give me 7 days to leg it out and then back on a tourist visa.

Is this kosher.....or WHAT???

I thought that with the Non B, then I could hang until the expiry date.

Anyway, the wisdom of others far surpasses mine and I wait with bated breath and humility for the pearls that may clarify that which seems to defy logic.

Whislt I was there today, a fellow Aussie who clearly had a tourist visa in his passport was being told he didn't have one. The poor bloke turned to me and asked me, pointing to the visa, "is this a tourist visa, or what?", to which all I could answer was "to you and me it is, but God knows what they make of it...good luck".

Talk about confusing.

Cheers n beers.

If you are here on a 90 day visa entry rather than a one year extension of stay you should not have to report to immigration - only return the work permit AFAIK. Why were you even at immigration and in which city was this?

I was at immigration because my ex employer had NO idea what my status would be once they cancelled my work permit and the city I presented myself in, was Bangkok.

I'm starfed if I know what the go is and so are my ex employers.

This is a bluddy confusing situation, but I don't want to get caught in the fuss. I am resigned to having my Non B cancelled and then taking a quick short trip to Laos/Myanmar to re-enter on a tourist Visa.

I just wish for once that this county could get it's beauracracy in order, but that may be one heck of an expectation.

Cheers n beers.
