Shipping With Dry Ice

Featured Replies

Just a quick follow-up on a previous thread.

I needed to ship feline blood samples abroad and keep them frozen if possible. I elected to use Dry Ice which several posters here pointed me towards.

I eventually found that I could purchase Dry Ice in any of the larger Ice Cream shops, 27-35 baht per kilo. However, FedEx, UPS, and DHL refused to ship with it, and also refused to ship biologics out of Thailand.

There is an ISO standard for packing with Dry Ice, and a standard for packing bio samples. Easy to meet both.

Triple boxed and sealed. I used three layers of 1/2" Styrofoam on all sides of the inner box which contained the Dry Ice and the blood sample, and one layer of Styrofoam between it and the second box. Those two went into a third box, taped and marked 'Biological sample," took it to the Post Office this morning, and sent it via EMS for 950 baht. They checked their regs and there was no restriction on shipping dry ice or shipping bio samples via Express Mail Service from Thailand. I asked them to double check just to be sure. I didn't want the package returned to me and have to have more blood drawn from the poor cat. She still hasn't forgiven me for the first drawing.....

My thanks again to all who helped point me towards the dry ice purchase.

Thank you for this, the info will be helpful!

I am now moving to Vets & Pets.
