I've seen several already for 2551. Try any SE-ED outlet, at most TESCO-Lotus stores, Asia Books outlets, and many other bookshops. While these are often missing a road or three upcountry, in the main, they all are pretty good. Mac, a semi map freak.
December 18, 200718 yr As Mac says you can find some pretty decent small scale maps at alot of outlets, all fairly recently updated. What is sad for me, as an ex Ordnance Survey(UK national mapping agencyand best maps in the world) employee is the total lack of large scale mapping. If you really need good local mapping it's worth going to your local Amphur or Land Office. They hold detailed maps of the local area. When we had our land surveyed for new chanote posts I was able to amaze the Thai surveyors with my knowledge as they use the same mapping software as back in the UK. Pretty sophisticated, just a shame that it doesnt trickle down to the smaller scales, lack of homegrown demand I guess.
December 22, 200718 yr Sorry ! I meant online maps You could try Google Earth (best with a fast connection) but it really depends on what you want to use the map for. GE certainly covers all of Thailand and shows every little road and track (as well as having actual aerial views of the surface features) but this is, to some extent, its downfall. The major routes, like motorways and expressways, are clearly delineated but all the rest of the roads look the same - whether sand tracks or 'proper' roads they are all 'white roads' on GE (in Thailand - much better on UK maps, for example). I've been trying to use GE maps to navigate around Chonburi province but with limited success - not much use for route planning as, likely, you will end up on a track, in the middle of some-ones' pineapple patch, when you thought that you had identified a through-route. Gives a nice aerial view of my house though. DM

The most detailed one actually showed not only my house but the actual shape of the house. Nobody does maps like the Brits! For Bangkok I have MapMagic...a computer disk that is pretty cool.
January 6, 200818 yr There is an excellent zoomable map of all Thailand here http://map.longdo.com/ the map is switchable to English at bottom right, the site switch to English is at top right. "I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"
