Internet At A Standstill

My TRUE internet isn't working, yet again. It alternates between not working whatsoever and working at ridiculously slow speeds.

I haven't investigated my dialup services too much, but they too seem to be having serious problems. On a good day they might have these problems as well so I don't know exactly what to make of it. CSLOX Webnet and True Easy Dialup are both having problems.

It's so slow I cannot really take care of my internet intensive business today. The customer support for True said it's a systemwide problem due to an international line being down and the government was working on it. Does this sound reasonable to those who know more about this stuff than I do?

I figured that others would be voicing their internet problems on this forum today, but I don't see anybody else having such severe problems. :o

I had assumed it was a TRUE problem as they had scheduled major switching outages this morning. All tests to TRUE server are good at full speed so if other systems having troubles it is wonderful CAT again. As it is first of month one could guess there has been switching of lines or some such activity and things will be a mess for 24 hours or so.

I can not even complete a speed test to international sites.

Well, right now it looks to be back up in operation. I'll keep my fingers crossed. Though, essentially loosing an entire morning and early afternoon of work is no small matter. If this was indeed a planned event, does anybody know where I could find out when they have this sort of stuff scheduled so I could make arrangements?

TRUE sent out email last night advising there would be outages:

Date Duration Time Place

Wednesday 1 Sep 2004 01:30 - 01:50 A.M. Surawong Switching

Wednesday 1 Sep 2004 03:00 - 03:20 A.M. Bangkhen Switching

Wednesday 1 Sep 2004 04.30 - 05.00 A.M. Donmuang Switching

Do not believe these were responsible for what happened with international circuits today however.

Yes, that doesn't sound like that explains today's situation. How do I get on the true maintenance email list? Thanks.

There's currently a problem with CAT's lines. Since the majority of True's international bandwidth goes through CAT, international sites will be very slow, if not unreachable. Just another example of CAT's exemplary service.

Maybe this also explains recent BITTORRENT speeds of ALWAYS < 2BPS and constant yellow lights/faces. If that stays the same, will switch back to dialup.

Getting KSC's high speed internet would be the same as getting True's. Check coverage area, prices, and apply. For condos or apartments, you would either have to be the owner of the apartment or get permission from the owner. Your apartment complex also has to allow direct (non-pabx) phone lines to your room.

Yeah, it looks like it wasn't true's fault this time. But they have certainly told me false things in the past. I'm not sure if they were lieing so much as they were just little guys not knowing what was going on and trying to just get on with it.

My blood pressure went up a notch when, amidst the true changeover crisis of some weeks ago, the girl told me that my account was actually not unlimited like everybody else's and I'd be charged the full old rates of 24 baht/hour. I could recount lots of other similar problems with true but I don't need to relive the horrors.

I have no problems with ipstar, constant download speed of 40-50kbps but I do believe I am lucky in that respect as I have heard many complaints about ipstar from others...

Remember when this happened last year? The intl cable was cut or something and the internet was slow for at least a month.

Hey, when I first moved here we had electricity for 12 hours a day (and that spotty) and we didn't have telephones (I remember using the radio phone at the post office to call my parents!).

I am always grateful for what I have :o

I am sure you're right about TRUE customer service in some cases Chingy, but on this particular occasion, the whole system was down - I am on dialup Loxinfo in CM, and had similar problems with low connection speed. I think they were right this time.

but my TOT work just fine, no problem
