mussen Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 Hi all, the link below (Thai Embassy Vientiane) states that its 2007 holidays were Jan 1 & 2, so I'm assuming the 2008 year will be the same, any comments or someone who knows otherwise? Also I see that there were suggestions not to apply for a tourist visa on a Monday, any thoughts on applying for a visa on the 3rd Jan 2008, first day back after a holiday? http://www.thaiembassy.org/vientiane/about_officetime.html

lopburi3 Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 2007 is not 2008. This year the holiday is Monday and Tuesday the 31st and 1st. Last year the 31st fell on a Sunday so the 2nd was a holiday for that reason. But you also have to check there are no Lao holidays.

Anyone up there in Vientiane can check out whether Monday the 7th of January 2008 is a Substitution Day for Sunday, 6th of January? My online research was inconclusive, as the 6th is mentioned everywhere as a public holiday, but not the 7th. The U.S. Embassy in Vientiane, however has a remark on their webpage which states that it is custom in Laos to "move" the public holidays which fall on a Sunday to the next Monday..
dr_Pat_Pong Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 Mine is conclusive. There is NO holiday for Thai's in Thailand.
