Bkk To Khanchaniburi

Featured Replies

Hi

I am not sure where this fits in the forums so I will start here.

I live in the east side of Bkk near Rama 9 on the way to the airport but my business is in Khanchaniburi so I need to drive there regularly. My wife and my phone GPS take me through Bkk near Khao San Road and the nightmare traffic.

There has to be a better way!!!!! Does anyone have an idea how to circumnavigate Bangkok. I am thinking of going out of town towards Chonburi then cutting across country but that is probably nonsense and I cannot find a simple road map which shows me the main roads.

But my guess is that you guys will have the answer.

There is, trying to explain it on here though for me at least is hopless.

I get on the expressway on rama 9 and then head towards the big bridge where the sloped Thai Farmers bank in on the other side.

But inbetween here and there is a few tricky turns on the highway.

I learnt it and remembered it with a friend that drove there many times, so it can be done and gets you to Knchan relativley quickly and certainly does not take you to Kaoh San rd area, we also live near rama 9 but in the ratchada area.

Express Way Maps

I did post these two maps in our "Thailand Travel Forum" big files BTW, very detailed in Thai and English.

I always go via Phra Pin Klao Bridge and then on the elevaded section to Nakon Chaisi, as I do like going through Thanon Ratchadmnoen Rd. passing by Khao San rd.

The other way is as mentioned by "MrSquigle" go over the Rama 9 Bridge and along Rama 2 rd. and join the outer-ring rd. Note:- Rama 9 Bridge is busy as well.

Yet another New way is to head towards the New Airport from Rama 9 rd. and then join the Route 9 to Bang Na (do not get off at Bang Na, BTW), over the New Kanchanaphisek Bridge and just keep on going straight until you join the Nakon Chaisi turn off and go under the elevated section.

Both these ways are appox 35-40 klicks more than using Phra Pin Klao Bridge. I normally make it to Phra Pin Klao Bridge from the New Airport in 45-60 mins and then to Kan in around 1.5 hours, total time 2.5 hours.

If you do go on the outer ring-road, do NOT take the Nakhon Phatom turing, take the next one Nakon Chaisi as there are no traffic lights until Nakon Chaisi.

Hope this is clear as mud. I drive there each week-end (Thursdays) as my wife & I live there and I work in Bangers & Mash.

Coming back from Kan I now use the New Kanchanaphisek Bridge, saves me 25 mins.

Have fun, try all three ways and see which one you like.

Yours truly, :D

Kan Win :D

P.S. Could Admins/Mods please move this to "Thailand Travel Forum" Thank you. :D

P.P.S. Happy New Year to One and All. :o
