304 , head out towards Rayong and then straight up to Korat , Road is not to bad except for a few roadworks and going over the range , I am guessing around 2-3 hours to Korat .

I would take a different route as I dislike the Kabin Buri/Chock Chai road (notorious for speed traps).

Join the 304 east of Pattaya and turn north towards Kabin Buri.

Before Kabin Buri, turn off right on the 359 towards Sa Kaeo and Aranyapratet.

Just before Aranyapratet turn left on 346 to Nang Rong.

218 from Nang Rong to Buriram.

By-pass Buriram taking 219 to Satuk then Phayakkhaphum.

202 to Kaset Wisai then 214 through Roi Et to Kalasin.

Obviously depends how fast you intend to drive but I would guess if you keep within the speed limits, the trip should take around 9 hours (700 plus kilometres).

I did the drive a couple of months ago.

Took approx 7/8 hours in total, route as follows -

From Pattaya get on the 331, best way is up past Lake Maprachan, towards Chachoengsao.

At Chachoengsao get on the 304 to Korat via Kabinburi

At Korat get on the 2 towards Khon Kaen

When you reach Ban Phai turn onto the 23 to Maha Sarakham and then pick up the 213 to Kalasin via Yang Talat.

(you could probably go via Khon Kaen in pretty much the same time)

We hit a couple of speed traps on the way and one on the way back (all on the 304)

totster :o

Is any of that faster than just taking Highway 7 towards Bangkok, getting on the outer Ring, then north to Khorat and beyond?

I once drove from Khorat to Pattaya straight down, it was complete hel_l and took forever.

I used to drive from Bangok up to a village about 40klm east of Kalasin in 7 hours with a couple of stops .

Drove the 304 just before christmas from Pattaya and it took 7 hours . Trick is to get going early in order to miss the traffic . We left at 4:00am , but I prefer to go a little earlier .
