i'm interested to know if anyone has attempted to make a new tourist visa after receiving the red stamp in Penang ?

Presumably this stamp only precludes you from re-newing at Penang ?

What about visa runs ?

I believe that the Embassy in Vientiane doesn't mind if you have red stamps from Penang....at the moment....things can always change.

I'll let you know for sure in a few weeks time when my GF will be applying for a tourist visa there with the red warning stamp from Penang in her passport.

Martaway, We have had members on here report getting an actual tourist visa "after" receiving the

red stamp of shame. And, as we are constantly reminded, the 30-day stamp "is not" a visa so I

don't see how you could possibly be denied both. It's strange, but embassies/consulates and

immigration don't seem to be working from the same page, the same chapter even. It will be

interesting to see how things shape up in Vientiane in the coming weeks. Like an army of angry

housewives descending upon the local hypermart when they have a grand sale, I suspect people

will either get trampled or they will have to hire outside security to maintain order in the queue. :o

I queried the red stamp with the Consulate at Penang.

They emailed me and said that you can still apply for a Tourist Visa even after receiving the 'do not apply here again' stamp !!!!!!

They said you need to show a flight out of Thailand.

Presumably a flight from Thailand to Penang would suffice ? !!!!!

A mate of mine got "red stamped" in Penang the last time he went there and has just got a 60 day visa from Vientiane.

People are being refused tourist visas in Penang and ending up with transit visas intead.

Is it worth the risk?

That's good news. Thanks for the report.
