thaigerd
When you bought a new car or pickup here in Thailand did you add this underbody sealant colour? It seems to me it's not done that often here in Thailand. When I asked in a garage yesterday they said it's around 10k baht including wax. What do you think? The only underbody sealent I get done is black (sprayed on the underside of the car) and I get that done every 6 months. They also wash and clean inside the car, all for 300 baht. So I don't think we mean the same thing! 10K baht sounds like a special kind of sealent (or do you mean a sealent cprayed inside the panels to reduce rust?) Bagsida
I think it´s a bitumen-spray which you spray only one time on the underside of the car, which also protects from stones etc. Bagsida
torrenova
Spray where ? All over the axle, underbody, brakes ?
Bagsida
Spray where ? All over the axle, underbody, brakes ? Unfortunatelly I not can see what is your home country, but I can not believe that you not know what is Underbody-Coating and how to proceed with it. You not have to be a specialist for to know not to spray on the brakes and other similar parts of the car or you also need an advice not to fill the car-wax in the gas-tank ? I´ve heard from a court decision a lady got compensation because her dog died by drying him in the microwave. The mistake the manufacturer made was not to set an advice in the manual not to dry pets in the microwave Bagsida

Bagsida
10000 sounds very OTT!! I´ve heard about prices between THB 6,500,- to 11,000,- For THB 6,500,- you have to renew the "sealing" every 6 month, so may be it´s wax only - I think for about THB 5,000,- (+/- what will belong to the car, not incl. the brakes ) and only one time treatment it would be o.k. , but if only for the underbody-coating specially if have to renew it´s more than overpriced. If include sealing inside the panels may be the price ~ THB 10,000,- would be o.k., but I not think it´s necessary to seal the whole car inside the panels and under the car if you not rent jet-sky and have to drive on the salty beach, because in Thailand it´s all the time warm or hot, so there is no condensation water inside the panels which will expedite rusting. I am also shure inside the panels is at least a little protection against rusting from the factory already. But now I know a little bit more about the big price-difference between the same car in Europe and Asia, because in Europe all kinds of sealings incl. 12 year "no rust guarantee", ABS, Airbags (up to 8), ESP and much more usefull features are included, and if you can get them in Asia you will have to order and pay for all of them separate. The customers in Asia (Thailand) buy for their cars many nice accessories like some chromium plastic parts, door-visors, stylish bars etc. nobody really need, instead of order the usefull things like the underbody-coating what I think is a must also in regions without the salt against ice and snow on the roads, because of the protection against spinning stones from the road etc., which will demage the (factory-) painting under the car and so the blank metal sheet can rust even in the Thailand. Bagsida
Today I´ve got the information, that the price (for Thai´s) is THB 6,300,- incl. check up every 6 month and 3 years warranty. For the coating they use NeoPac R-9000 (Manufacturer-Data-Sheet : solvent-free aliphatic urethane acrylic copolymer designed for coating wood and plastic substrates), which is setting hard and not stay medium soft like the spray on bitumen-base. Advantage : Nearly not flammeable Disadvantage : Not stay soft, so may be spalling Bagsida Edited January 13, 2008 by Bagsida
sierra01
From what Ive seen rust isnt much of a problem in LOS, maybe I'm wrong?
North
Hi all, Does any of you know about a product called Speed World that is specially for underbody sealent of a car ? I have an offer from a Bangkok Ford dealer about a new car, and part of the offer is an underbody treatment of the car. They don´t do this treatment themselves, but will bring the car to a shop that is specialized in this kind of work. Any information is appreciated. culicine
Gerd 10 k, to expensive. Go to a small local paintshop and they will do it between 3 and 6 k (black thick undercoat sealing) I get mine done at a shell garage in Patum Thani. It is the black underbody sealant sprayed underneath and they do it every 6 months. This was part of the deal with the local honda garage when i bought my car new. That was nearly 4 years ago. As it is, I just pay 300 baht to get that done and also get the car cleaned inside and out. No way would I pay 3-6K for the same? service.
stingray
Leyland Aoto seal, big spray can, cost 165 Baht per each and if you do it by your self, you need at least 4 - 6 cans for a complet and good job for a honda civic, for example. For a cadillac you need a little bit more. So 300 Baht is almost impossibile and i don't think labour is free, you need at least 4 or 5 hour to do the job right (cleaning and masking brakes, and other parts). Maybe they use "flat black" spray 35 Baht per each, instead of under couting spray.
Lancashirelad
(Manufacturer-Data-Sheet : solvent-free aliphatic urethane acrylic copolymer designed for coating wood and plastic substrates), which is setting hard As others have said, underbody sealant in the tropics is not such a necessaty, though can help to make the vehicle a little quieter. Though having said that, i notice some of the floors in the older baht buses in pattaya are rusted right thru! Underbody sealant which sets hard is not thought to be a good product for this purpose as it does not "self repair" when damaged by a flying stone! As for having it done every 6 months, that's just ridiculous. It will end up inches thick! Would suggest (taking the price into consideration) they are doing no more than spraying it with old sump oil..... which works very well at stopping rot in the uk's climate/salty roads, though i know the chemists on here will bring an acidic reaction argument forward. Yes, completely true - I would prefer a spray on bitumen (Teroson, ThreeBond, Sonax...) or wax base which is "self repairing" and not some stuff setting hard or even only oil.
