Hi everyone, thanks for all the help regarding registering my marriage. Tied the knot a few weeks back and converted my visa to a Non-o in Bangkok without any problems. Now I'm starting to prepare all the docs I need for my first 1 year extension. I know this has probably all been asked before, and I'm sorry if I'm boring you all to death.

What specific docs are required for the financial requirements?

I have an income certification letter, from my embassy, stating an income of R12000 from my home country (roughly 52000 Baht).

I don't transfer the money to Thailand, my salary back home is deposited into my South African bank account and I use my ATM card to draw out 40000 Baht per month which I deposit into my Thai bank account. It saves me loads as it only costs me about 200 Baht each time.

Can I show the letter from my embassy and my Thai bank book which shows a 40000 Baht deposit being made every month? What else does immigration need?

My list of docs so far include:

  • Copies and originals of passport and visa
  • Copies and originals of wifes ID card, marriage certificate and tabien bahn
  • Pictures of our wedding, apartment, us outside and inside our apartment and of our closet (showing both hers and my clothes).
  • Map to the apartment
  • Income certification letter and bank book

Have I skipped anything out of this list?

You need to ask the specific office on the financial requirements proof but what you have sounds good.

You also need arrival card/copy.

4x6 cm photos taken within last six months (for TM.7 application).

Letter from bank of account balance (to match book) and copies of all pages in passbook.

I would have apartment lease just in case it was asked for.

1,900 baht application fee.

Thanks again for the great info Lop. Got a copy of the arrival card, the pictures of my mug and the apartment contract. Seem I just have to get a letter from the bank, will get that closer to the time.

Does it matter that the account balance fluctuates? I mean I need to cover monthly expenses? But I always deposit 40000 at the beginning of the month. I just know that from reading about the old rules, you needed to maintain the 400000 baht balance for 3 months before your application.

Good info guys,

Mines coming up in March and I was wondering how important the embassy letter is. I transfer more than 40k from my offshore savings into my Thai bank account each month. If I show the bank records from both banks with appropriate letters from each bank (the offshore acoount will show income earnt from abroad andnot Thailand) do I really need to have an embassy letter.

I'll be doing mine in Phuket and want to avoid a trip to Bangkok if possible.

I also intend to take along heaps of receipts for house rent, wifes daughters schooling etc to show that I do spend the money here.

Cheers

I have a few questions on this topic also. I was recently married in November and my recent entry expires in March.

Is there any reason to apply for the 60 day one time extension before applying for a 1 year extension? If I have the income verification letter from my embassy do you still need the 400K in the bank for 3 months before application date. I was under the impression under the new rules if you have the income verification letter showing income of over 40K baht per month the balance in your bank account was not an issue; immigraton just wants to see any balance in a Thai bank account. Also, I have left and re-entered Thailand (to reset date) since getting married. I am still eligible for the one-time 60 day extension. Or is it better I just go for the one year. When do you go to immigration and apply -- 30 days before current entry expires?

Can the application forms be download from immigration website?

The extension of stay application is form TM.7 and download link can be found in the pinned items at the top of this forum.

There is no 400k requirement but the proof of income 40k is not always the same everywhere. The Embassy letter should be the primary factor. A bank account helps to prove your ability to survive. I would request the one year and if they say that is a problem go for the 60 days to allow extra time to take care of anything they want. I would go with about 3 weeks remaining on current stay.

Thanks lopburi3. I will be applying in BKK with an embassy letter from the USA. Is that sufficient for BKK imm?

I would always have a bank account/letter but believe the Embassy letter will swing it in Bangkok - but we really don't have many recent reports so anyone having done here recently please advise your experience and what was required.

Sure no problem. I will post my experience after receiving the extension stamp in my passport.

Also I was planning on getting a bank letter just in case they wanted it. Do the local banks charge for the letter? I was going to get mine from K-Bank. I have had over 300K in one account for over 3 months and it is now over 400K but will not be 3 months when I apply; but balance will still be above 400K.

Dont worry too much about the bank balance. Some officers like to see some movement in and out of the account as proof of your daily existence.

You have the required monthly income.

Wise to take the bank letter and bank book just in case.

Right. I had reported in a separate post that in BKK we were only asked for the embassy letter. We took bank statement copies and a letter from the bank, but they did not want to look at them and just handed them back to us.

Thanks jkolak. I'll be going to BKK immigration next month to apply for my first one year extension based on my marriage late last year. Below is a list of what I will bring. Please let me know if I am missing anything I will need based on your recent experience.

Me and my wife

TM 7 extension app filled out

Copy of marriage registration

Departure card and copy

Original and copies of my passport and current Non-B one year visa

USA Embassy letter affirming my income over 40K baht per month (it is my understanding they will not ask for bank book and letter from bank)

Copy of apartment lease

Map to our residence

Photos of me and my wife (outside apt, inside with photo of clothes closet, together inside room, together during wedding ceremony)

1,900 Baht

I am missing anything?

Will they keep the original wedding certificate or just look at it? Are you referring to the actual certificate or a certified copy of the other paper they give you that has more information on it than just the pretty wedding certificate?

Forgot about the other stuff. Pics and wife's ID and home registration. Only thing I need to get is the pics. Have the other stuff.

Thanks again guys. You've been a great help.

Believe you may require the original marriage certificate also.

4x6cm current photo attached to application.

Like ID card, Home Register they are likely to want to see the actual marriage certificate. Anytime you bring a copy of something you should have the original to show.

My wife's original home register is back home with her father. Do I need to get her to have him EMS the original to us? I have copy of it after her Amphoe office changed her last name.

What is the earliest I can go to apply for the extension? By looking at the immigration website it seems to be that you have to go 3 weeks or more from the current departure date. If I go six weeks before is that ok or will they tell me to come back at a later date? Thank you again for all of your fantastic help and information.
