Having used them 30 years ago and still using them for specialist testing today agree that Rutnin are the premier eye specialists facility in Thailand. But if for normal care/treatment any hospital should have qualified ophthalmologists on staff.

Confirm : friend of mine used Rutnin and was happy. If it's just routine check up Rama 9 gave me excellent service too.

I've been seeing a doctor at Bangkok Hospital Pattaya, but because the matter is fairly serious I have considered getting a second opinion at Rutnin. The doctor I see in Pattaya is completely fluent in English. Have you found the doctors at Rutnin to be able to converse easily in English? I would not want to be misunderstood nor would I want to be unsure what the doctor is saying.

Thanks.

I've been seeing Dr Chaiwat at Rutnin for 10+ years for glaucoma.  He's also done two cataracts for me and a "trabeculectomy" on right eye.  English language fine, American accent.

Have also been to see Dr Roy, retina specialist, same, American accented "English."

I concur with the consensus that Rutnin is up there at the top of the list for quality eye care.

I had surgery there going on three years ago because I was so near-sighted. My vision is still 20/15 in one eye and 20/20 in the other. I did use the 'free tweaking' to adjust my eyes about 6 months after I had the initial surgery.

My eyes healed quickly, the follow up care was excellent, the language skills of the staff and doctors excellent. I had worn glasses since I was 8 years old yet I still find it amazing to have the ability to see clearly when I wake up in the morning.

(edited for a pesky spelling error)

definitely not Rutnin

Bumrungrad and Bangkok Hospital have good eye doctors

I am quite happy with my eye doctor at Bangkok Hospital and, presumably, the doctors at Bumrungrad are good too, but why have you said " definitely not Rutnin?"

I read your comment about Rutnin Hospital and I have been told that Bangkok Hospital in Bangkok is the best. As my child was born in Bangkok Hospital in Phuket, I feel very comfortable with continuing with them in Bangkok. As the Phuket Bangkok hospital cannot do surgery to clear the tear duct on an 8 month old baby, I would still like to have a second opinion from Rutnin. Please can you explain why Rutnin is not the best option?

Does anyone know any good eye doctors for children? Brought my child to Bumungrad but they didn't seem to diagnosis much...

I have an 8 month old baby that needs surgery to unblock her right eye's tear drain that has been blocked since birth. Have you managed to find a good eye doctor/surgeon in Bangkok since your last posting? We live in Phuket and we need to know more before driving to Bangkok in March for this surgery. This surgery cannot be done in Phuket.

Receive reply from my email to Rutnin Eye Hospital. It seems that they are recommending Rama Hospital for this surgery. Does anyone elso out there know of any alternatives? Does anyone know how long we will have to stay in Bangkok to get surgery done at Rama Hospital?

Cant go wrong with Rutnin. Mrs Bendix used it two years ago and the service was excellent. Price was very good too. Thoroughly recommended.

The following email was received from Rutnin Eye Hospital. As we live in Phuket, we cannot afford two trips to Bangkok since Rama Hospital will not give us an appointment for surgery until after the doctor in Bangkok has seen the baby. They will not tell us how long the time will be between consulation and surgery. I have been trying to phone Rutnin Eye Hospital using the phone number posted on their website but it doesn't go through. Please let me know if there are any other private hospitals in Bangkok that can operate on our baby's eye without having to make 2 trips to Bangkok from Phuket. :D

Dear Sir, Thank you for your email. Regarding to your question about the hospital for eye surgery. We advice Rama Hospital for you , because Rama Hospital provided many expert doctor. But the problem is wait for a long time. If you don't mind about the time , it should be better to see the doctor here. Best Regards, Information Department

my experience with Rutnin: very poor medical quality

I must admit that I have no experience with their surgical procedures.

Does anyone know how Rutnin compares with the TRSC clinic for laser eye surgery? Has anyone here had Lasik done at Rutnin? Similar prices? I got a quote from TRSC and its only slightly cheaper than back in NZ, therefore would probably end up being more expensive after travelling back to Thailand later for post-op check ups.
