Police Check For Uk Settlement Visa

Featured Replies

Hi all, just starting on the long road to a settlement visa for my Thai wife. I have sent off for a police check for me, but does she need one also from TL? Her friend said she does and the only place to get it is BKK? Well she lives 5 hours drive from BKK, if she does need a police check surely she can get this done at any police station in TL? Anyone any thoughts as to wether this is true or not? Another thought she also has a car on finance, now she wanted to keep the car at her parents house when she moved to UK but keep paying the monthly payments.(about 18months to go) Can she do this from UK or must she pay it off before she leaves TL? Many thanks in advance

The new forms issued by the Brit Govt last October require that the applicant states whether or not they are a criminal, whether or not they have been involved in genocide, whether or not they are a terrorist.

But the guide lines issued along with the forms do not propose that there is any police check or similar necessary.

http://www.fco.gov.uk/Files/kfile/VAF4-10Dec07.pdf - page 7 or thereabouts, sub-paragraphs 5.10-12 or thereabouts.

An application for a Settlement visa to UK does not require that the applicant or the sponsor provide a police check.

Just been discussing this with Consulate in Saudi.

Brits do NOT require police check for Thais filling in Settlement Visa applications.

The hire purchase matter is a Thai matter, nothing to do with Visa.

Have you completed your sponsor forms? Sent them to your wife?

Read the web-site I have posted above. There are new forms and new guide lines published in the last few months.

Tell your wife not to listen to friends, unless they have been through the process themselves recently - it is a failing of many Thai girls. Read the instructions, then go and do something completely different because a friend told them it was better.

Hi thanks guys for your help, appreciate very much!

No we havent filled the forms in yet, we propose to try for settlement visa around end feb/mar when she can get time off work to drive to BKK.

The confusing matter is her friend who just got her settlement visa for UK, has told her she must get police check done and it can only be done in BKK! Which is now worrying my wife very much too now, but thanks i'll take your words for it and tell her she doesnt need one!

Thanks again

afaik only police hq in bangkok is possible to get police clearance certificate. My husband tried to get one from his local amphur & was sent to BKK as finger prints have to be taken. Same as in the UK he got one for the UK too (for work at a school) & had to go to scotland yard in london, no local stations do it either.

Whether or not it is needed for settlement app I don't know but may be useful for her to take to Uk incase she gets a job working with special needs or children. :o
