A shocking case of jealousy turned violent in the early hours of 25 July when a man stormed into a bedroom and opened fire on the new partner of his former wife. The victim, a former drummer of the popular Mor Lam band Lam Yai Hai Thongkham, was left critically injured.

 

Police have arrested 26-year-old Mr. Phachara, also known as “Phet” from Phosa Subdistrict, after he turned himself in following the attack. He is accused of breaking into a house in Hua Phai Subdistrict, Muang Ang Thong District, and shooting 28-year-old Mr. Suwatchai, known locally as “Chang Earth”, multiple times.

 

According to investigators from Ang Thong Provincial Police, the suspect admitted to the shooting, citing jealousy as the motive. He had reportedly divorced his former wife just days earlier, on 15 July. After the shooting, he fled the scene on a Yamaha Fino motorcycle with a friend and later disposed of the firearm by throwing it into the Chao Phraya River near Phongpheng Subdistrict.

 

Police recovered eight bullet casings at the scene and are examining CCTV footage from multiple cameras installed around the house. The bedroom bore clear signs of violence, with a bloodstained mattress and a shattered window believed to have been pierced by bullets. The victim sustained gunshot wounds to his leg, hip and abdomen and was rushed to Ang Thong Hospital, where doctors managed to stabilise his condition.

 

Ms. Ket, the 25-year-old current partner of Mr. Suwatchai, told officers that she had been living with him for about a month when the attack occurred. She reported that Mr. Phachara, her ex-partner, entered the house from the rear, kicked down the bedroom door and began shooting before fleeing with an accomplice.

 

Authorities have charged Mr. Phachara with attempted murder, unlawful entry and weapons offences. The case remains under investigation as police continue to gather evidence.
