1) Is a return ticket really necessary for entry? I have never been asked for one by immigration officers - only sometimes for a boarding pass of my arrival flight and only at BKK.

2) If I have spent, say, 75 days in Thailand within the past 6 months, will I be given 15 days pass on arrival or will be refused entry altogether?

Many thanks for your help!

1. A return ticket is never required - an onward ticket with travel documents for that destination is required for visa exempt entry. It is seldom checked by Immigration for flights from first world but it can be. It is more often checked by airlines.

2. You will get what the math of the day decides - it may be 15 days - or some other figure. It is much better to never allow this under 30 days remaining to arrive. Tourist visas are not exactly expensive for most people.

Many thanks! Yes, the cost of the visa is not a problem in this case, rather the space it takes in passport and the fact that I need to leave Thailand soon after arrival again - in which case I understand I should just get a re-entry permit, which again requires almost another page.

Regarding the onward ticket, I am going to Phuket this Sunday, planning to get a second 30-day pass on arrival (recently had one full 30-day stay plus a few assorted short stays for up to 15-20 days within the last 6 months), flying from KL. Are you saying I should get an onward/return ticket just in case? I suppose I could always get a refundable o/w ticket as opposed to buying a cheap one and then having to throw it away later due to uncertainty of my work travel.

Thank you very much indeed!

An onward ticket is very rarely asked for especially at the airport, the only place i know of is poipet cambodia border that i know of is where they ask for that and even then they sell them for 200 baht..just make sure your in the 90 day allowance

It is very often asked for by the airlines however and you risk not being allowed to board until you can show a ticket out. I suspect on the short haul from KL that this is less likely but would always allow a little extra time when trying to avoid the conditions of entry. A ticket out is a condition of entry for visa exempt stay.
