In a surprising turn of events, two Thai lawyers have filed a legal complaint against a well-known fortune teller, accusing her of inciting public panic with her predictions of impending clashes at the Thailand-Cambodia border.

The fortune teller, Worracha “Plai” Pinitrokakorn, widely recognised as Plai Prai Krasip, made headlines following an interview on 2nd August. During her discourse on Thai politics, Plai claimed that a new Prime Minister would be in place by November or December, identifying him as a young man whose name starts with the letter “P”. She painted a grim picture of this new leader, describing him as self-centred and reckless in decision-making.

However, it was her comments on potential border unrest that truly stirred controversy. Plai predicted an imminent attack within days, urging the public to stay away from their properties and prioritise safety. Her ominous forecast warned of severe bloodshed and hinted at diplomatic strains, sparking fears among believers of her psychic powers.

Her assertions did not sit well with everyone. Former Narcotics Suppression Bureau officer Rewat Klinkaysorn publicly criticised Plai on social media, questioning the baseless fear she instigated. "You said it would happen in one or two days. Nothing has happened. How will you take responsibility?" he wrote, highlighting the undue distress caused to those who trust such predictions.

Amidst the mounting alarm, prominent lawyers Kirdpon Kaewkird and Ronnarong Kaewphet took action. On 5th August, they lodged a complaint at Pak Kret Police Station, Nonthaburi, accusing Plai of violating Section 384 of the Thai Criminal Law. This law prohibits the deliberate spread of false information leading to public unrest. The offence is punishable by up to one month in prison, a fine up to 10,000 baht, or both.

The lawyers were clear in their intentions, stating they were not pursuing harsh punishment but aiming to dissuade Plai from making such inflammatory statements in the future. They left the door open for additional charges, should further legal infractions be uncovered through the interview evidence submitted.

In response, authorities plan to question Plai. However, their efforts are currently stalled as she has been hospitalised, reportedly due to stress from the unfolding situation.

The unfolding drama highlights the intersection of traditional beliefs and modern media, raising questions about freedom of speech versus public responsibility. Plai's predictions, while widely ridiculed by some, still hold sway for many, illuminating the deep cultural roots of fortune telling in Thailand.

While no clashes occurred as she foresaw, the incident has ignited a broader discourse on the influence and accountability of public figures, especially those with significant followings. As the legal proceedings continue, it remains to be seen how this will influence the conduct of individuals who wield such influence over the public psyche.

For now, the case serves as a reminder of the power of words and the responsibilities accompanying that power, especially in a world where information, accurate or otherwise, spreads rapidly through various media channels.

She is fake apparently, as when is could really see the future she would have known that a file against would be complaint.. And now she is hospitalized as a result of her stress.. but if she really can predict things she sees the outcome...and don't need to be stressed...

Leave her alone, all she does is exploit the uncritical attitude of the masses like the politicians and tycoons do since forever, designed and put in place by institutions and the education ministry...

If she is to be investigated and prosecuted for spreading allegedly violating Section 384 of the Thai Criminal Law which prohibits the deliberate spread of false information leading to public unrest, then EVERY politician in the coalition and most senior govt officials MUST also be investigated and prosecuted for the same breach of that law.

Also while this prediction didn't happen, she has a history of very accurate predictions PLUS psychics or whatever name they wish to be known by, are unable to predict their own futures, so she wouldn't have seen this coming.

However, it will be interesting to see if her prediction about a new Prime Minister whose name begins with P happens in November/December.

Her most recent accurate prediction was about the earthquake in Myanmar. She was spot on with that one.

I used to be a huge sceptic, but I've seen too many things in the 11 years I've been in Thailand that have swayed my opinion, not entirely but to the extent that I'm now 50/50 on what I believe and don't believe when it comes to psychics, mediums and the supernatural.

Yes many of you will laugh at this post, but I was similarly sceptical until I had those experiences.

No, I never laugh at other people’s posts. But maybe I can make you laugh a bit at mine.

It’s contagious. She’ll be forced to show her hands in court, so the judges can read her future. And of course, every lawyer will try to convince the judges to read only their own lines of argument — and skip all the others. You'll end up with a courtroom full of conflicting prophecies.

If you’ve really hit the nail on the head, then the fine is fixed — which, for me as judge, makes the future easy to predict:

Petty Offenses

There’s a lady in my neighborhood too who claims to read palms. Many years ago she read mine — possibly because my wife couldn’t. That situation has improved over the years. (I mean my wife, not the palm.)

You are just speaking for yourself of course. Apparently some are or were very good at for-seeing someones future path in some way.

For example my mother went to a "sand reader" many years ago. This person said that my mother was going to be in a bad car accident but not hurt all that much because she could see her laughing in hospital with something like chains around her neck! The next day my mother and father were in a bad car accident and mom got a sprained neck and needed a brace. She met another patient while in hospital and they had many laughing moments together. Just sayin.

One of the most sought after intelligence among the people here.

She should counter-sue for defamation. It makes about as much sense.

You seem to have upset the idiots, your 'absolutely correct' remark managed to garner a couple of thumbs down.

Jeez, some people get offended for just being called out.

The dark ages return... 20 years ago Thailand was looking promising as an emerging nation.

Now it's retreating back into it's cave.

Real fortunetellers will never be able to give lottery numbers, or other lucky things... They even can't tell you when you die, if they see it.. It is not allowed

Hilarious; so we are back to reading used coffee, chicken bones and the way, voodoo dancers invoke black magic and medicine men spiritualize sick spirits inside people's bodies.

Welcome to 21st century then ......

A believer will always be able to make a connection between what is predicted and an event in their lives. A generalised prediction in astrology, read by a million people will get a percentage of imagined accuracy.

A stranger will bring news......

How are fortune tellers not the richest people on Earth?

They seems to spend all their time grubbing about in seedy little tents in muddy fields.

Fortune teller should have forseen getting sued
