Elevated Toilet Seat For Wheelchair Users

One of my hotel guests is quadraplegic and is having some difficulties transferring from his wheelchair to our bathroom toilets. This is because the standard toilet height is too low. I knew this when I built the hotel, and was intending to simply buy a raised toilet seat. However, although these are easy to locate in UK shops and on the internet, I havn't been able to find a supplier in Phuket.

I'm in BKK on Monday and really want to buy this special seat. Can anyone suggest a specific shop that sells them? (I know there are hundreds of shops that sell wheelchairs etc, but I would rather go to a specialist shop that definitely sells them - my time in BKK is a little short!)

Thanks

My recent broken leg saga involved extreme pain in trying to use my very modern low toilet. Went to some pharmacies and a hospital equipment supply store and they all have the Thai version of a raised seat.

It is a three legged toilet seat that fits nicely over the existing toilet seat and thus provides an additional toilet seat at a comfortable level. This "stool" can also be used in the shower to sit down at a raised height. They are easily cleaned, as they are equipped with a sturdy plastic toilet seat and rubber feet.

I think they run about 300 Baht. I think the height is the same as a wheel chair.

An improvement would be adjustable legs as they have for canes and walkers, but perhaps the ideal raised height doesn't vary between users so adjustments are not necessary.

The one I bought without forethought actually fit snugly around the toilet bowl without movement and my toilet is the elongated style.

Thanks for the advice. In the absence of a suitable item, (and I'm not back in Bangkok until next Monday), I fashioned a temporary seat out of ... a lifebelt! This is made of hard but 'cuttable' expanded polystyrene. I cut the lifebelt into 2 sections and then cannibalised it with a cutting knife in order for it to fit over the toilet bowel lip etc.

The end result looks comical, but is amazingly sturdy and my guest is now having no problems at all! I am thinking of patenting my 'elevated toilet seat utilising cannibalised lifebelt' idea :o
